After a little research [In reply to] Can't Post

here is duly sanitized account of what I learned:

It seems the term "gimp" has been used in certain (adult) circles since before Pulp Fiction to describe a willingly subjugated person in a specific type of relationship. Often such a person wears a certain type of close fitting garment that covers their entire body, restricting movement (therefore not to be confused with a uni-tard). Such a suit started being called a "gimp suit" after Pulp Fiction. Before that movie it was (and still is on occasion) named according to its function/purpose.

All this is to say, in answer to my own question really, that it can be argued that it is a film reference rather than specialized knowledge of a sort.

Still, given the suits are green, he might better have called them Jim Cary Riddler clones. Considering (according to the article) that EW is owned by Warners it boggles the mind that that particular part of the interview was given so many column inches.

Perhaps he did! [In reply to] Can't Post

But WB didn't want to remind anyone of the "Schumacher"era in the Bat mythos, so the "gimp" commentary was an ill-advised to fabricate something else for PJ to have said. Tongue

Anyhoo, nice detective work! I agree the term's prominence in the article is weird. Wink

PJ shouldn't be giving Tarantino free publicity, however, seeing as his new movie - Django Unchained - will be released alongside TH in December (slightly different subject matter, however). Cool

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

It isn't really... [In reply to] Can't Post

In the EE documentaries for Two Towers they talk about Andy Serkis's 'gimp suit' - so often that he probably took it for granted everyone would know the word. Either that or he's said it so often now he doesn't think about it any more. But this certainly isn't the first time they've used it.

That's where I first heard the word too [In reply to] Can't Post

And I never really looked it up, just assumed it meant a tight-fitting suit (yeah they do talk about Andy's gimp suit a bit).

Thank you very much [In reply to] Can't Post

The images appear to be very sharp, have they been photoshopped? Thorin looks like he has spent some time under a sunbed and starting to get an 80's rocker look, lol.

Love the other photo, Balin looks fantastic as does bilbo in is robe! Though his big feet are kinda distracting.

Also what is Thorin holding? A key?

Oh, i thought i found it first, lol [In reply to] Can't Post

Probably the hilt of his sword? Infact i just looked at the other pics of Thorin with his sword and it does look like it alot, i think its just that, oh well.

I wonder if a dwarf key will look like a standard key or something special?

Or maybe he grabs an axe for a bit when the orcs take Orcrist from him? Hmm..
