I almost passed out after my first view of the trailer. Fifteen views later: Everything I expected and more was in the trailer. So wonderful to see Gandalf and Galadriel again. I really liked the song sung by the dwarves. Great job Peter Jackson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In other post it says it looks too tall to be a dwarf, but I think it all depends of the point of view.

via my 50" TV It's odd, but watching it on a TV makes it feel more in-tune with LotR somehow... I guess watching it on a small computer screen just doesn't do the epicness justice for some reason or perhaps it's just better the 10th time

It kind of schock me to see both Ians faces. The years (10!) have not passed in vain, obviously. I imagine they didnt get to clean the images for this trailer (although Cate looked flawless as always).

...after watching the trailer again and doing some comparison, that I'm pretty sure that, in the clip where Bilbo is grabbed by the shoulders and hoisted upward at about 2:00, that's Kili and Fili doing the hoisting. The sleeves on the two arms match the designs on their costumes. :-)

(probably because of tiredness and the weight of expectation), the second time I saw it I got all choked up though. Can't believe after all these years we're finally seeing a proper trailer Still don't like the glossy, sterile, digital look overall and wish we were seeing some stuff that we haven't already seen in vblogs, but it's a beautiful trailer and I can't WAIT to see the finished product (or just the main theatrical trailer for now!).

It will be interesting to see the final order for the actor credits. You'd think it would start off with Freeman, Armitage, McKellan, and in that order, but perhaps the last two will be swapped. After that, who knows? They probably want to get Blanchett, Lee, Holm, Weaving, Fry, and Cumberbatch up there early, even though you'd think some of the Dwarves would figure earlier than some of those other characters. Still waiting to see Brian Blessed as Dáin.
…all eyes looked upon the ring; for he held it now aloft, and the green jewels gleamed there that the Noldor had devised in Valinor. For this ring was like to twin serpents, whose eyes were emeralds, and their heads met beneath a crown of golden flowers, that the one upheld and the other devoured; that was the badge of Finarfin and his house. The Silmarillion, pp 150-151 while Felagund laughs beneath the treesin Valinor and comes no more to this grey world of tears and war.The Lays of Beleriand, p 311

A good teaser trailer. Enjoyed the singing and seeing the chip the glasses moment at Bilbo's. Seeing the LoTR stuff and no Beorn sunk my enthusiasm quite a bit but we're still a year out so... All I can hear after the dwarves' monkish song (very cool) is Michael Palin's King of Swamp Castle from Monty Python and the Holy Grail "Stop that! Stop that!" Anyway, a nice start.

AWESOME! Too bad I have to go to work and my main computer contracted a virus while searching for the trailer last night. Can't wait to dig into all that. So then, it seems the trailer was only for the first movie, seems I was right about that...hee hee! That means in another 16? months we'll get another one! The wait is going to seem that much longer now. I still have to watch this over and over again, frame by frame, but I'm happy with it. To the CGI naysayers you have to realize that when you compress down a hi-res image meant to be on a big screen, it tends to look like more like CGI, so don't worry. I'm sure it'll look amazing.
"There is a long road yet," said Gandalf. "But it is the last road," said Bilbo.

First I want to say I thought the trailer was great... It did the job it was supposed to do as a teaser. I'll be honest - my biggest emotion was relief. Don't ask me why but I'm just glad that the movies will look and feel like the movies that went before. My biggest fear was that it would be like the Star Wars prequels. I feared we might end up watching the trailer and it would look and feel like a totally different middle earth. That's not how i felt. It felt like coming home. Also after The Lovely Bones (which i personally hate and have been more than vocal about here before) I'm glad that Peter’s back to material that he looks like he's handling well. I can see that they are going with a slightly darker / adult tone with the trailer (and the movies i guess) ... and that's fine, if it's just so they can blend nicely into the lord of the rings. Someone here gave out about Martin Freeman's acting... to be honest - he looked great to me. We're not seeing him doing any the serious heavy acting and all the stuff we are seeing is more light hearted and to me, it look no more cheesy and comic that Ian Holm's comic acting.... The rest i think others have covered pretty well. It's a good teaser. I look forward to another trailer with more focus on the actual story - which i imagine we won't get for at least 5 months... don’t want over kill.

You realize they have ONE YEAR left of post-production? This isn't locked and pushed away, ready for release; this is stuff they'll work on over the next 12 months.

Well, I'm excited.
For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much -- the wheel, New York, wars, and so on -- while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man, for precisely the same reasons. -- Douglas Adams

I see it more as a 13th century cowboy hat. We know who the horseman is. I more and more like the varied look of the Dwarves. It indicates right off that they are refugees, a displaced people, with dreams of regaining a lost homeland.

oh but it was so worth trying! It felt like coming home, or putting on a pair of comfy old shoes....it was just right! and now thanks to the Powers That Be....I have it in glorious 1080! MF was perfect, as was Sir Ian....no-one will be surprised at that....It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces again.....it had quite the air of a reunion. The scenery/sets were just like stepping back through the years to a well-loved time.... I knew Richard Armitage would be brilliant....and I was not disappointed! regal, sad, wistful and confrontational! His singing was perfect....conveying loss and sadness. I've been a Tolkien fan for 40+ years and now, waiting for the movie, I feel like a kid waiting for Santa to call!

based on the colour of the inital logo shot and the poster I think it's fair to say that gold will be the signature colour of this film much the same as green for FOTR, red for TTT and blue for ROTK. That'll probably be the colour of the EE anyway. And I'd guess silver for TABA.
