Sir Christopher Lee speaks very briefly about four days of shooting... Can't Post

... for both TH films. He specifically mentions shooting for both films. So, White Council meetings in both films? See this video with Lee interviewed on stage during a film and wine festival in Slovenia:

Well, four days of shooting doesn't seem like a lot at first [In reply to] Can't Post

But when you think of it, if it is all dialogue they shot, they could easily have three or four scenes with Saruman in it. Perhaps a couple for the White Council sequence in Rivendell and some more of Saruman overlooking the action from Isengand in There And Back Again? I doubt he will be in person at Dol Guldur though.

Incidentally, Cate Blanchett seems to have been in New Zealand for a few days also, so unless she returns for the second or third blocks of shooting, their roles may be smaller than we think. My hunch is that Elrond will join Gandalf early on in his Dol Guldur adventure and that at the last minute Galadriel will come in. Saruman stays home.

Oh and forgot to mention, it is still a pleasure to hear him speak [In reply to] Can't Post

People worry too much about the returning actors having to look the same as before for the films; yes, Sir Lee has changed a lot in ten years, and I hope they use that to their advantage in the films. It could make for a subtly more human Saruman without even trying too hard; there is a charming sort of tenderness to him that is new (though he is still as commanding as ever).

He does seem to be quite clear about two films. [In reply to] Can't Post

But maybe that's just so he can be terribly disappointed all over again when he's cut from the last one for pacing reasons! Evil

It is, isn't it? [In reply to] Can't Post

I love the fact that at nearly 90 years old, he's willing to make movies, and travel to different places and speak to audiences. Truly an achievement at that age. He's an actor, former soldier/spy, heavy metal singer (true story), and all around awesome man. Yeah, he's definitely aged, but the makeup artists really did a good job of de-aging him to make him look a lot like he did in LotR. By the way, I like that he's looking a bit more plump now than he did last year, because I was getting worried about his increasingly thinning figure.

I try not to think morbidly like that... [In reply to] Can't Post

But it's fairly obvious when one is near 90 years old, that one realizes anything could potentially happen sooner rather than later, and is fully prepared and accepting of that fact.

Maybe he will return for second or third shooting block... [In reply to] Can't Post

...if PJ & Co. write pickup shots for Lee and the White Council. The scenes Sir Christopher shot recently may have been written so that they alone work within the story. If he is available later PJ might want to add pickups. I´m sure PJ watches and edits rough cuts with a full eye for pickups as needed. They have all of 2012 and much of 2013 to do it.

yes [In reply to] Can't Post

I am so thrilled he's so enthusiastic about The Hobbit and he looks quite well.

If you love what you do, it shows and it certainly shows with Sir Christopher. He's a role model to go for your dream and do what you love.

I'm very excited to see Saruman and am happily surprised he had more than one day of filming.

The White Council in both films... [In reply to] Can't Post

If this is accurate, it may just mean that even if the attack on Dol Guldur takes place in An Unexpected Journey, the results of the assault won't be revealed until There and Back Again.

Actuarially....if one achieves age 90 and is in "good" health [In reply to] Can't Post

the odds are favorable for living another 10 years.

Of course, depending on your health, it could be less.

Mentally, he is still very sharp considering his age and it is expected to have some infirmities.

Don't play with swords [In reply to] Can't Post

It was interesting to hear that when he did The Three Musketeers they used real swords and he sustained an injury from Erol Flynn, after lunch. It must have been especially dangerous when he was fighting with that rookie Hayden Christensen using light sabres.

Film Days to Film Minutes.... [In reply to] Can't Post

If +/- 250 days of shooting results in say (6.5 hrs)* (60 min/hr) = 390 minutes of footage (say 400 minutes as an order of magnitude), then 4 days of shooting might yield somewhere between 5 to 10 minutes of footage (again as an order of magnitude estimate). While +/- 45 minutes of this footage may be cut from the theatrical release, perhaps very little of the Lee footage would be cut.

Oh, I don't know... [In reply to] Can't Post

I think he's remarkable for his age and I love the fact that at almost 90 he is still making films, travelling, attending functions like this - whatever it was - and giving interviews and taking an active interest in things. There's nothing ordinary about that - most people begin to give up on those things 10, even 20 years sooner, often because they have no choice. I admire his spirit and hope I'm even half as lively, if I live that long. Trust me, if you'd seen how truly frail and vulnerable an elderly person can look you would admire and not pity him.

And remember, Saruman was a whole lot older! Wink

Baldness [In reply to] Can't Post

There is one thing I have noticed, both Sean Connery and Christopher Lee were bald at an early age. And both are very old and active. Perhaps they were early bloomers? People are getting older and older, we are slowly evolving. Maybe being bald is the next step since we have become more and more hairless the more we have evolved. I don't know just general observation.

When you consider that they will add in cut aways, POV shots, etc, and may digitize him for certain scenes (ie something like the fight scene with Gandalf) he may yet end up having much more screen time.

Even if he is somewhat overly enthusiastic about guys named "Eugene" that's hardly relevant to his opinion of The Hobbit, is it?
