I'm assuming that now all the dwarves have been revealed, we'll get to see them in action, maybe filming the scene in Rivendell described in the Empire article. I'm also hoping we'll get a sneak peek at more designs too! Guess we'll have to wait and see!

I thought it was going to be something much worse. I agree with Pete that its just too early for official Hobbit panels and such. You don't want to over-saturate the market too early and tire people of it already. Next year should be full of Hobbity goodness. Now the great news, about the new video! That's great stuff, can't wait to see it, and it looks like he's finally getting around to doing the questions that we're asked. Pete is too nice a guy. I would be off my rocker if I had to deal with all the stuff he is dealing with, pleasing fans before the movie comes out probably wouldn't even cross my mind.

First observation: OMG, Peter's in shorts again, and wow, he's really looking and acting a lot like LotR Peter! 
2nd: The dwarves look amazing in person! And they aren't even captured in the perfect light of Lesnie's camera yet! They all get along so amazingly. I think I'm going to love Bombur and Dwalin! Dwarf song (Metallica version rules! haha!)

While watching PJ's latest vlog, I was pleasantly surprised to hear the dwarves sing a bit of Bilbo's "Cow Jumped Over the Moon" song--the one that Frodo sang at the Prancing Pony before he accidentally slipped the ring on his finger, in FOTR. I love the fact that the dwarves also played musical instruments in one clip on PJs vlog.
Technically, there is no way that the dwarves could have known Bilbo's song, but I don't feel like splitting hairs. The movie looks like fun, so far.

Well, technically, Bilbo could have learned it from the dwarves...but it doesn't strike me as a dwarf-song...more of a hobbity kind of irish jig. I imagined dwarf music to be more brash like a German drinking song or something. Not particularly pleasant but a thing to behold...hmmm. Everything else I'm excited about...

Quick observations on first viewing:
The head ornament is in. I suppose we'll have to get used to it.
Very interesting to see some of the hair and beards from different angles. I'm looking forward to studying some stills.....hint, hint.
LOVE the shot of all the dwarves and their doubles!

Looks like the dwarves will put up a bit of a fight against the trolls. Not that it will help them much.

My fingers were shaking so hard after the reveal of Christopher Lee that I could barely log into TORn! I think I've achieved nerd nirvana! I guess I'll do bullets, as I'm a bit too excited to be any more cohesive…
- Jackson wandering around being a film nerd was cute, but the reveal of Christopher Lee made it awesome.
- Nori's hair is explained! I rather got the notion that it was shaved into shape, but if it's just well-teased braids, that makes more sense. Good old Starfish.
- All the footage of the dwarves is amazing, especially dinner in Bag End. They look rowdy, filthy, and like terrible house guests. Ian McKellan delicately saying that he wouldn't have them all over at once was hilarious.
- Cate Blanchett! My God, she looks gorgeous, as always, and the costume is beautiful. I've been mourning the loss of Dickson (yeah, fine, go work on Green Lantern, break my heart, why don't you) but the new girl seems to be picking up the thread and adding a few twists of her own.
- I love how they're ribbing Turner for not having a beard (I guess the canon explanation will be that he's too young), but the more I see of Fili, the more I think, "that's what a wildly attractive young dwarf should look like". I hope the ribbing of Kili makes it into the film.
- Watching Hugo Weaving cutting up while in costume as Elrond is like discovering your schoolteachers have lives outside of school, I have to be honest! Though, of course, I'm glad he's having fun.
- Seeing all the dwarves together was lovely, but seeing them with their scale doubles was even better.
- Songs! We'll be having more songs! I'm pleased by this.
I basically shrieked and giggled through this entire video. So much, so soon! We're so spoiled.

Dwarf lyrics always seem to be ponderous, and are most likely sung in a minor key, usually. The "Merry Old Inn" song was more like an Irish fiddle tune, but it was indeed written by Bilbo, according to the paragraph just before Frodo sings it, in "At The Sign Of The Prancing Pony."

I have to say, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the way they revealed Christopher Lee! The whole build-up up of PJ appearing in the UK had me on the edge of my seat with anticipation. I wonder if that will be before, during or after the visit of Bilbo, Gandalf and the Dwarves. It seems she must be there for the meeting of the White Council, no?
I loved that even the *actors* are making fun of Kili.
And, bless Sir Ian McKellen, who hadn't read TLOTR before being cast as Gandalf, but he was the only one who got the names of all 13 dwarves correct. He positively ooozes class.

At 11.28 in Bag End, you can see a bit of Fili's head, and that doesn't look like Dean O'Gorman. The same at 11.51 when we see all of them with their scale doubles, that has to be Rob Kazinsky (he looks taller aswell), or am I being total blind here?
Anyway, love to see them all in action, and they look much better here than on the pictures. I totally freaked out when I saw Sir Christopher Lee at the end, just AMAZING!

Not sure! But the quick shot of him during the 'naming of the dwarves' segment matches the actor in the official dwarf reveal, so I think THAT'S Dean O'Gorman. Who I think is very cute. Sure hope the next blog has more Fili!!

Oh, the humanity! (or should that be "Hobbitity)?!
The Dwarves look terrific, and I love the camaraderie already evident between Thorin & Co. (BTW, Bifur definitely has thing thing in his head). 
Seeing Saruman again was wonderful. Christopher Lee appears visibly older, but hopefully this can be altered through make-up.
Looks like the Trollshaw scene is going to be much more frenetic than in the book, with the Dwarves putting up an actual struggle (suspected this along along, it just makes sense cinematically).
Did anyone get Elrond's lines? They sounded like "They are some who would not deem it wise...You're not the only guardian to stand watch over the door", I think?
The more we see of this production, the more exciting it becomes. Just absolutely amazing...
I would rather be watching Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" and Ridley Scott's "Prometheus"...it's going to be a long few years.

Best video blog yet by far! We see much more than i would have ever imagined we would, at least so soon. All the actors in full make-up, Thorin is intense(!), Bombur funny as hell, ah, so much to take in... I loved when PJ commented that those were some of the first scenes Martin filmed 'trying on' his new character of Bilbo, and he had Gollum coming at him from every angle all the time.

It's so encouraging to see everyone having such a great time making this movie and taking the stuffing out of each other. It's right on par with the camaraderie we saw in the LOTR movies. Now that I've seen all of the characters in motion, I'm liking the designs a lot more. Still shots used for press releases hardly ever look like the characters their supposed to be (at least in my opinion).

Gandalf's new "old" staff and Thorin's pre-Orcrist sword look pretty cool. I was only able to watch the video full screen in HD by first grabbing it. It would only play small on Facebook. Did anyone else have that problem? Let me tell you all, large and in HD is the way to watch this video.

You know....the 'unsung heros' of the production. How classy is it to give them a well-deserved part of the limelight. *clink* her's to you Peter Jackson!
(secretly, though, instead of their 'fav moments of production so far', I'd pay money to hear their comments on make-up and costuming challenges, the joys and trials of 'dwarf training,' how many actors have accidentally hit someone in the head (or other body parts) by turning accidentally while wearing half a dozen weapons and, most of all, we want to know the dwarf curse words so when they turn up in filming, we'll be in the know (assuming they won't translate *all* of them literally).

The 'reveal' pictures were so stylized and 'posed' I had a feeling that when we saw the company in action, they'd seem much more natural.

I tried downloading the first one, but it kept downloading blurry, so I figured the same would happen for the second. Therefore, I never actually tried that one, but this video I did try, and it downloaded great, so I don't know what's up.

What a blast to watch that video. I'll have to rewatch in the morning.
Really enjoyed seeing Galadriel/Elrond/Gandalf in Rivendell. Musical instruments and song; Riddles in the Dark; Dwarves in action fighting @ Trollshaws; Bifur still sporting the craniaxe; and on and on. But most of all, seeing the Dwarves as the rough and tumble hardy folk that they really are, not all glammed up for a photo. Huge difference in appearance for most of them. And Thorin - some signs of what to expect out of his character.
OK, time for lights out.
Things are now in motion that cannot be undone.

This was SOOOO much better than the 2nd diary and all the photos combined!!!! Whatever reservations I had about ANY of the dwarves completely evaporated when I saw them interacting and just having fun. The only thing I was TRULY disappointed in is that they don't have their coloured hoods!! I was reaaally hoping they would since WETA made that Christmas card greeting for TORn with the dwarves in their hoods, but honestly I'm not THAT bummed out.. they look so good anyway!!
I can't wait for the frame-by-frame analysis  Going to take screenshots on my own and analyze them for now

This is amazing! Full walking talking dwarves, dwarves hanging out in Bag End, dwarves everywhere! A bit of a song. John Rhys-Davies (I cheered aloud when I saw him) on set. Bombur is fantastic! I actually laughed pretty hard when he was singing the song. I am starting to love the casting. So happy that I have this to look forward to. It's going to be bitter-sweet when it's all done and the Blu-ray is released and all the extra features have been watched. I don't even want to think about that! So much to look forward to now!

If I'm not mistaken don't they hang their hoods up by the door when they walk in? They could still have their colored hoods. I have actually been thinking, maybe it's raining when they show up and they usually don't wear the hoods. I'd like to hope there is still a chance they make it in.

I saw that too and that's what actually reminded me about the hoods. But throughout the video, we see the dwarves in Trollshaw, when they were testing themselves out full in costume in front of the camera, and I've yet to notice any form of detachable coloured hoods. Of course, they might just not be wearing them for whatever reasons... or maybe they're given hoods in Rivendell (reminiscent of Lothlorien gift-giving scene)...highly unlikely, but that's just me grasping at straws trying to come up with excuses and I don't think they'll have their hoods at all  If they do have any sort of coloured hoods, it'll just be the few with coloured cloaks (but I could live with that!).

Whatever route they take, as long as the dwarves get some kind of coloured hood, I won't complain!
I don't know why I'm so nit-picky about these hoods.. I'm usually not like this. I guess it's just that I read The Hobbit when I was little, and the only thing I could recall some years later was the colorful dwarves and a dragon!

I agree. In the Rivendell scene, there is another elf walking from right to left and it appears to be figwet/Lindir.
I tried to see the colored cloaks, but couldn't.
I loved seeing Christopher Lee in the end and I can't be more grateful to PJ and company for keeping my hopes so high. Opening day, ya that'll be a day I take off from work.

I'm going from memory, but he is appears to be wearing the same jacket, shirt and pants that Ian Holm wore in Gollum's cave. Even his hair appears to have the same disheveled look as Ian Holm's did in the FOTR scene. If so, this is an elegant way to maintain continuity with the previous films.

Load up the webpage and the video, then go to Window: Activity.
Open up the Activity window, scroll down until you see a web object several MB in size (and increasing as the video downloads). Hold down Alt/Option key and double click it.
It should start downloading to your Downloads folder.
This sometimes doesn't work with Facebook, as they've occasionally embedded videos differently. It did for me with Diary #2, so I'm hoping that I can get this new one diect off Facebook. Otherwise, I'll grab it from YouTube the same way.
I was pleased to find out how to get videos on the Mac, without having to get a plugin.

No other film in production gives this kind of up to date details and its just fantastic how we are getting to know characters and so on. Peter Jackson i think will be bigger then Lucas and i think when this comes to the screen it will be Harry Potter who Pirates Of The Caribbean what.

This was amazing!
The dwarves look much better than I hoped. Only thing still bothering me is Kili and that annoying thing in Bifur's forehead.
Thorin looks soooo good in the video compared to the promotion still.
And the rest where to begin. Riddle in the dark, seeing Martin with Sting, Cate looks great. But the icing of the cake was Sir Lee in the end.
I'm so glad we will see him as Saruman again!

Judging by 8:09 into the film, and that Sarumans set is a reproduction of it, albeit in green screen, (the chair he's sitting on is the same type as Gandalfs), I'll wager that Galadriel shows up while the dwarves are in Rivendell.
Shame they couldn't all shoot their scenes together at the same time, but, they're A-plus actors, so, I have no doubt it won't be noticeable.

I was surprised by how much they changed his costume. It's the same type of clothing, but the colors are drastically different. It's hard to tell from this particular shot, but I think Bilbo is wearing white under his jacket rather than the red waistcoat with the brass buttons seen in the LotR prologue.

all this talk from PJ about not thinking he was ever going to make TH...wasn't his original original plan to do a trilogy: TH as the first film, and LotR as films 2 and 3, before he ended up settling on the later 2 films as a duology...then went back to a trilogy?

I would rather be watching Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" and Ridley Scott's "Prometheus"...it's going to be a long few years.

I would have put money that Andy might have directed those scenes but its a sign of pure class that he did. Poor C.Lee and Peter had a bumpy road at the release of Return Of The Ring that I think it's great that Pete did this one himself...

The Dwarves look really great on camera - even production diary quality camera.... Especially Thorin. Look at 12:02 into the video. For me this is a totally different Thorin from the promotion picture. Whatever doubts I had about him are now gone!
I will probably change my mind about Kili eventually. After seeing him together with his double I got a sense it might work.

doesnt look nearly as well groomed as the pic but he's still gonna make a major heart throb for the females...cant wait to see Orlando back in costume too even though I wasnt a big Legolas fan. I dont have a favourite they are all so different in personality and looks but by the end of the movie I'm sure we will all have a favourite. I can't wait to see the boards after the the movie gets released it will be awesome.

AMAZING! so much to digest....
Some thoughts - yes, Bombur definitely does fight with his soup ladle!
Anyone else notice - Oin (I think) seems to have an ear trumpet, which Dwalin pours beer into!
We are going to have some instruments, although Dwalin's clearly isn't a 'viol as big as himself' - that always seemed a bit unlikely to me anyway :p
I love the bit where Bofur falls backward off his chair... James Nesbitt is just pure class.
Thorin looks soooo much more like what I imagined compared with the promo pic :D
I'm even warming to Kili - if he is really young, maybe it could work. Still don't like the elvish ears though.
The scenes with Galadriel don't have any dwarves in, so I think this must be the White Council - Elrond, Gandalf, Galadriel and ???
Overall, superb - how are we going to wait a year!

Random observation:
1. Ian said "Sloin" instead of "Gloin"!
2. Bofur has Pippi Longstocking braids!
3. Dwalin speaking Scottish only makes him even more menacing.
4. As we all know, damages to your frontal lobe does tend to make you a bit brash and unpredictable. Bifur looks completely unhinged @ 9:50! I can totally see him as the volatile one that the other have to hold back from time to time.

WOW! This is absolutely spectacular! I felt like screaming with joy throughout the video! All of the dwarves look so much better "in person". The guys seem to get along really well.
My mind was racing the whole time:

Since I've never seen any of these guys act before (except Richard Armitage), I didn't know what to expect as until now they've just been a group of 13 actors to me. Watching them together is like witnessing order being formed out of chaos.
But the one Dwarf that's got me uber-excited is Kili. I was quite sad that he looked like an Elf in his promo pic, but I kind of held out hope that he'd be passable as a Dwarf. And well, he's not just "passable", he's as Dwarvish as they come.
For some reason, I wanna speak in gruff tones all day today

I can't tell you how many times I've paused and set back the Rivendell dinner scene. That was always what I had wanted in LotR--more scenes of the elven realms. Especially Rivendell. It seems like such a classy place to live.
Galadriel really could NOT be climbing those flets stairs in that gown, though. It must be what she wears for formal dinners outside of Lothlorien. Good to see that Elrond has several changes of clothes.

I've been comparing the Bag-End set PJ is on with the set in video #2 and noticed some things...
1)Markers: There are markers everywhere so that the set can be digitally tracked, this is so that they can place the rest of Bag-End (hallways, garden, lighting etc) using a computer, but I noticed the UK set has markers on the desk. The only reason they'd have those markers is for camera tracking. I assume some sort of exact camera track to allow a morph from old Bilbo to young at the same desk or Frodo to Bilbo as a flashback.
2)Dust: The NZ set is dusty, implying no-one has been there for a while, but is layed out exactly as it's seen when Bilbo uses it in FotR. This implies it's either before Bilbo starts the book (which doesn't explain the dust). Or after leaving for Rivendell. If after, we can expect Frodo to sit here and start writing Lord of the Rings as no-one else uses the room after Bilbo leaves.
3)Fireplace: The fireplace is lit in the UK, giving the room a warm, comfortable tone compared to the old dusty abandoned tone of the NZ set. I expect we shall see the warmer tone in a flash-back. Perhaps Frodo thinking back to happier times and missing his uncle.
4)Flowers: If enough time has passed to collect all that dust, those flowers last forever! Or they replace the bouquet frequently.

The Dwarves look amazing, and I completely lost it when I saw them playing instruments while bowls were being flung across the room--I first read the book when I was 5 and the entire Unexpected Party scene was so much fun to read that watching it come to life now has me grinning so wide it hurts. Unbelievable. All the Dwarves seem to be completely winning characters right now, I'm fond of them all already and am surprised at how easily I can tell them apart. Little details--In the bit where Thorin yells for the others he wasn't wearing his armor, which I thought was interesting. Also, how awkward would a dinner with Elrond be after that outrageous meal in Bag End? Ha! I also found it amusing that the Legolas and Thranduil(?) concept art is now carefully blurred out in the background! I guess we snuck a peek we weren't supposed to get.
As to the hoods, there was a moment where I caught a glimpse of the hat pegs by the door, I can't find it now, but I saw Gandalf's hat hanging there at any rate. There were other shapes below the hat, but I couldn't tell if they were hoods or not. Still, this is evidence at least that there are pegs, so I'd say hoods would be likely.
I don't think Kili looks at all Elvish in this video; on the contrary he looks very boyishly Dwarven, and I think that will work beautifully. My brother, who despised Kili's look in the official photo, is now in total favor of his look as well. Bombur looks even better than he did in the photos, as does Thorin, I think (Armitage is going to be brilliant in this role). And I finally got to see the back of Nori's starfish hair, so I'm a happy girl.
I loved how it looked like Bofur is hammering at the trolls' toes during the Trollshaw fight. Thorin's Dwarven sword looks great, I wonder if it will get broken in the fight to lead him into taking Orcrist?

As can be seen in the group gathering with the size doubles:
Fili's double is posing with a medium-sized hammer.
Dwalin's double has two small axes on his back (they can also be seen on Graham's back earlier).
Bombur's double has a meat cleaver along with his ladle.
Thorin's double is holding a nice triangular axe.

Just an observation. It seems to me that the actors are using pronunciations of each other's dwarf names that sound how I always thought they would but have since discovered aren't the way Tolkien meant them e.g. actors saying Filli and Killi as opposed to Feeli and Keeli. Same with Balin and Dwalin. Do you think that's because they are still talking about them in the way they heard the names in their own heads (rather than the names they will use in character) or because those are the pronunciations that will be used in the films?

When I saw Peter was in Pinewood Studios I said to myself, are they going to show us Saruman The White? They did and the second it appear I collapsed with excitment and relief! And Galadriel with her timeless beauty...
The Dwarves are great. I have now no worries about them, they are truly a great bunch. What about that hug between father and son? Heartwarming...
And yes, it seems the Bilbo and Frodo scenes will take place in Bag End so let´s go on speculating a little more! Damn I´m happy right now, thank you Peter!

After watching the video some dwarves look different to me comparing with the photos released.
Nori definitely has some crazy hair.
Ori and Oin look different in the video then the photos.Ori probably looks different because he did not had the hood on his head.
Balin looks much better and I think Dwalin just became my favorite dwarf.
I definitively hate the piece of axe in Bifur's head and I don't know if I will cope with that through out the film.
And is it me or Thorin looks much older in the video? Maybe it's his face expression.
Fili looks much better then the photo and Kili definitely looks human to me and not dwarvish. (at first I could not decide if he looks dwarvish or not but after watching the entire video I can tell that he looks human).
And the actors are saying he is the hot one ..so who could argue with that ..I guess it's decided..Kili is the hot dwarf :)))
Other things that I liked: I saw much more from riddles in the dark and I had a pic at the dwarves doubles and there are going to be songs ..yay..and I can't wait to see the unexpected party scene..it looks to be a fun one :)
And how funny that the actors don't know all the dwarves names :)
And did we saw the dwarves fight in the trolls shaw? (I hope I spelled "shaw" correctly)

I didn't read the comments from this thread so it's possible I already repeated some things that other people said.

Finally seeing Christopher Lee back as Saruman was the highlight for me in a video full of highlights.
Kudos and thanks to PJ and all involved for making this so generously available. PJ seems to have gone out of his way to address leading questions many of us have had about cast members returning by showing us, rather than the oh-so-old-fashioned method of press releases.
The video also seems to have soothed the concerns about the appearance of certain dwarves, whilst cementing the already good impressions we've all had. Either it's a fantastically good coincidence - or don't tell me they don't scan these forums for fan reaction! ;)
In the end, the spirit of camaraderie and genuine respect for the cast and crew of LOTR seems to shine through - the deliberate reveals of Elrond & Galadriel, and of course of Saruman. In addition, showing JRD's reunion. You can really see why it seems actors 'want' to be in PJs movies - one big family vibe.

...with Christopher Lee is absolutely hilarious. (Lee looks surprisingly well!) In general a great blog and a really good, close look at the dwarves. Not only do we get to see them move, we also get some insight into their personalities. (Looks like Oin will have a hearing problem, for instance.) Thorin looks a little bit better here than in the promo shot.
Most importantly though is that we're getting a feeling for what tone PJ is going for and it seems like those that spoke of comedy is absolutely on the money.

I've only watched the video once as yet (then again i'll likely be watching it again as i write this so that may not stand). First impressions though, yes the dwarves have got significantly better to my eyes in the shot footage as opposed to the promo pics. The lack of prosthetics still bothers me (some of them do still look like normal guys in silly costumes) but seeing them in action with their costumes and whatevers swirling around does (obviously) give them more of a sense of life. Some of them have drastically improved in my estimation- Ori and Nori certainly don't look nearly as worrying as i thought they would. To be honest that was really all i was focusing on on my first watch through (well christopher lee's climatic appearance too but mainly the dwarves), so now for the detailed critical analysis:
Gollum's Cave: No sign of the boat (a fair omission i'd say) but it is interesting to see how Gollum is using the rocks on the set- it's little details like that in the direction that help transfer it from a book scene (where you kind of imagine Gollum just paddling up to the shoreline) to a film. Perhaps that fork in the rock will be where Bilbo gets his first glimpse- possibly a real shock moment and yet playing homage to our first glimpse of Gollum in FotR through the ladder. The set though is superb and in the best tradition of the original films- exactly like you imagine.... and yet better- i love the way the rocks tend to slant towards the entrance and their jaggedness- quite a John Howe-feeling area, Bilbo almost finds himself making a 'grand entrance' onto a gameshow he never wanted to be part of. And i actually warm to the more 'indistinct' portrayal of Smeagol/Gollum, it's more playful and more sinister than the polarised performance Andy Serkis did in LotR when Gollum is out in the open and desperate.
Bag End: So this is our first view of the dwarves properly, actually there acting. First thing i noticed is that Dori actually looks rather like Kiran Shah facially. I'm not suggesting it is Kiran under there (they're the full sized dwarves) but it is quite a resemblance in the mouth and the nose. Ori, sat next to him looks a lot less juvenile, still mousey and distinctively prosthetically-light (very much more faun than dwarf) but a bit hairier. Nori's hairstyle has improved drastically. Incidentally i think i saw something similar in sketches of the white witch in the narnia films. Bombur looks suitably imposing at the far end- a bit of a caricature, but it works even if his costume is still a bit dodgy. Aidan Turner has stopped looking quite so blow-dried but he's still not a dwarf by any stretch, in fact he reminds me of Serkis playing Smeagol for the prologue of RotK. Fili is still a far better design (a whiff perhaps of Primus from Stardust) though i still want my dwarvish head proportions. Thorin, in our first in focus mid-range shot still doesn't sit right with me- the first shot i've got to admit there's very little of Richard Armitage recognisable but the head/body proportions are still human in fact he looks more like a young Gandalf than Gimli. Gloin and Oin still look superb, the most dwarvish of the bunch certainly (interesting 'spur' on the back of Oin's hairdo). Graham McTavish's arms have benefitted from some prosthetic layers so they don't look quite as human but his head is still rather small for a dwarf and perched on those big shoulders it could do with some serious augmentation. Balin looks better for getting some life into him. I was a touch worried he almost looked too old in the promotional picture (he looked very frail to be honest) but now i can believe he's one of the oldest and yet still with a bit of vim and vigour in him (i'd still change his 'gnome boots' though). Bifur looks like a laugh and a half- i noticed a little snippet later in the video where he lunges at one of his fellow dwarves while in bag end- a percieved insult perhaps? William Kircher's Khuzdul also was quite fun- i quite like the idea that Bifur almost has tourettes as a result of his injury and might just sit in the corner spurting dwarvish swearwords at various intervals, in addition his costume is more yellow in 'real' light which i'm happy about- looked almost green originally. I'm still not sold on Bofur- he's too human but i do like his costume with the earthy yellow. Bombur looks fantastic and although i'd prefer him to have his braid split into two 'walrus tusks' it doesn't look quite so much like a string of onions when on the move. As Ian McKellen recited the dwarves, Dori has a bit more of his beard showing which makes me happy, Nori has lost a bit of the catweazleness he had on first view (although i would still like his hairstyle toned down a touch) and for all the slenderness of his face Ori is improving on me (his hair is a lot more red than it appeared in the photo where it bordered on grey). We even have the dwarvish take on the pudding basin- a sure mark of any geek (a dwarven Dwayne Dibley perhaps?).
Richard Armitage as Thorin acting (well the little snippet), there are shades of Sean Bean in the voice. Back to looking distinctively like himself in that clip and i'm still not convinced (sorry Armitage fans)- he's not a bad actor, just nothing near Thorin (although seeing him grubbed up (greatly more than he was for Robin Hood and other 'warts and all' period pieces) i'm getting happier with booting him into the predicted role of Bard in my mental Middle-earth).
The interactions between the actors do make me smile. You get to see a bit more of the dry 'straight man' McTavish i remember from Red Dwarf as opposed to the more giggly, clownish side of him that we saw in the press conference. He's a great bloke. Adam Brown is very cool too, although to look at him he's one of the most fundamentally undwarvish characters going with that nasal voice of his (i'm sure he'll change it for the part, then again he's got a fairly big honker in the film so maybe it'll fit). While it's nice they're self-aware, i don't think any amount of ribbing either on or off screen will make Kili dwarvish, in fact it almost highlights that it wasn't a misguided reinterpretation of the dwarvish look but a cynical attempt to get something more totty-esque into the proceedings. The more i see of John Callen though the more he convinces me of his brilliance- there is a dwarf through and through (I do want to hear more of his 'public schoolboy' speaking voice though- it's hilarious).
The Trollshaws: Predictable but cool reinterpretation of the scene. I suppose there's enough 'dwarf counting' in other parts, so a bit of a battle at that stage will be great stuff rather than just sticking bags over their heads one by one. Interesting use of punch-bags as stand ins for Troll legs. Given that we saw Bilbo creeping around next to a fence that looks very similar to the ones in the trollshaw set, perhaps the choice to have them all attack at once is as a 'rescue mission' for their burgler.
Rivendell: Interesting location for the council meeting, looks like one of the new bits of Rivendell PJ talked about in the first video- a kind of rotunda with statues between the pillars. Cate Blanchett looks lovely though certainly different in her new costume (her grey shimmering 'travelling garb' is rather striking, evocative of her in 'dark queen' mode). Hugo Weaving's costume too looks rather more vibrant (and i'm debating whether that's in a good way) than what we saw in LotR where his clothes were rich, but at the same time 'soft' in colour.
Back to Bag End: Good to see they are including some music (I'm hoping for a deeply atmospheric, gutteral rendition of 'over the misty mountains cold'- Khuzdul or English i don't mind). Graham McTavish's dwarf voice (tapping into his native scottish) is quite impressive, almost echoes of Begbie from Trainspotting, pouring beer into what struck me as Oin's pipe. Ori's voice is rather funny too, as Adam Brown says 'very polite'- i'd quite like to see the older dwarves taking the piss out of him- dwarves are polite in formal situations but i imagine Ori hasn't quite learnt when to be rude and blunt, one of the essential skills a dwarf when growing up. It does seem that Bombur (as if the ladle wasn't evidence enough) will be the company's cook- something that wasn't a formal position in the Fellowship of the Ring (though you imagine the hobbits do most of it). Lovely to see John Rhys Davies make an appearance. Interesting to see what might be Rob Kazinsky as Fili in the scale-double shot, looking like he was going to wield the hammer we saw in the first video.
The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow: It's Sir Christopher Lee! Creepy, imperious, perfectly returned to his cinematic self, it's Saruman. Hopefully the character will take part in the assault on Dol Guldur even if Christopher must stay in England. It's wonderful to see him again.
So, this is certainly the best of the videos to date- the last one, while you did get a look at some beautiful NZ landscape frankly doesn't come close to this. So fancy that- i'm happy!

Watching the Dwarves at Bag End was my favorite part, especially their musical endeavors. I made the mistake of trying to watch this at work, and when it showed them singing and playing their instruments, I burst out laughing!
I've long thought that because *The Hobbit* is so funny, especially those scenes in Bag End, all P.J. had to do was stay relatively true to the spirit of the book and we'd be in for some serious hilarity. Looks like that's exactly what's happening! Huzzah!!!
I seriously heart the Dwarves--as has been noted, seeing them in action is a hundred times better than seeing their pictures.
This is going to be fabulous! But however are we going to wait???!!!

Why do you feel the need to apologise for the fact that you don't like Richard Armitage? You not liking him won't effect people who are his fans. You clearly state that you don't think he's a bad actor he's just not your vision of Thorin. The problem of course is it doesnt matter if we are pro or against him, he is after all cast. He is Thorin.
I'm not taking shots at your post, i'm just curious as to why you apologise, as your opinon changes nothing, no more then a pro Armitage's does.
I should state for the record that i feel neither great love nor dislike for him. I need to see the movies to judge, but i'm optimic.

Splicing an actor in like that might be doable, but it would probably be better if they didn't do it that way. Far more likely, I think, is that they filmed all the Dwarves-In-Rivendell stuff in NZ, then all the White-Council-In-Rivendell stuff in UK.

I'm sure it's an ear trumpet (i.e. a hearing aid), not a pipe, unless Oin smokes out of his ear
If you look carefully in a previous scene (9:46), you can see it sitting on the table. Oin does have something else in his mouth, which might have added to the confusion...
Incidentally, just noticed, and don't think anyone has mentioned it, that Oin (at least I think it's him) seems to be playing a teapot as his musical instrument at 8:31

I was glad to see real honest chemistry between the actors. That was a big part of the success of LoTR imho. They look like they would be happy to have a beer together off set.
I'm such a rube that in the very beginning I was actually wondering "They filmed parts of the James Bond movies in New Zealand?" Then I saw the Pinewood Studio shot...du-uh.
The dwarves remind me a bit of Klingons but in the best possible way. I like Klingons.
I liked the look of all of them...especially Thorin.
Kili just looked young to me. I can imagine a young Gimli back home pouting and angry "How come HE got to go?" Speaking of Gimli it was great to see JRD on set and to hear words of wisdom for the dwarves.
Great to see the old faces returning, especially Christopher Lee. That was a surprise.

I've been pretty calm about this whole process up till now, but seeing this last video diary.... SO DAMN EXCITED! I want to see this movie NOW! Seeing Lee back in full garb was epic, but for me the highlight was Cate. We've heard so little about her involvement till now, and then wham, there she is on set looking stunning.
The Dwarves truly look fantastic. I had no real problem with the promo shots but I wasn't sure if they really felt like a group of Dwarves. Seeing them all interact together on set has washed away all my doubts though, I even like Kili's look.
All you have to decide, is what to do with the time that is given to you...

PJ being inexplicably transported to Pinewood was pretty hilarious – they better put these things on the DVD. The Dwarves generally look better in their element and surrounded by sets and more natural lighting than they do when they're photoshopped into a giant grey background, as we knew they would. I'm feeling a bit better about Armitage as Thorin – he looks like he'll be a cool Dwarf leader, even if he's not really the character I took from the book. I'm afraid I'm still not feeling Kili – he just doesn't look like a Dwarf, and there's practically no resemblance between him and his brother. It looks like they're turning the Trollshaws sequence into a battle, which is not surprising; I'll have to see the final product before I decide what I make of the change, but hopefully the Dwarf-sacks and the troll argument are still in there somewhere. Cate and Hugo have hardly aged, and while I don't have the same passion some members here feel for costumes, it looks like the filmmakers have come up with some interesting new things for them to wear – I don't want them to look exactly like their Lord of the Rings selves. The scene with the Dwarves gathered around Bilbo's table for dinner looks suitably chaotic, and I can definitely get behind Bifur going crazy and sending the whole thing to hell (a bit like the scene in Time Bandits where the dwarves are performing for Napoleon). It was great to see John Rhys-Davies turning up, and seeing Christopher Lee as Saruman was just the icing on the cake. I hope he has a pretty substantial role in the film.

So did I. We heard snippets of "The Road Goes Ever On and On," Strider singing a bit of "The Lay of Luthien," Gollum croaking out his greatest hit, "Ode To a Fishhhhh," and that little poem by Sam about Gandalf's fireworks, but that's about it, as far as I recall.
There were a number of songs that were made up for the films (Merry & Pippen's "Green Dragon" song, Pippen's song while Denethor was eating, and some Elven songs); and of course, there was Eowyn's funeral song, and Aragorn's song at his coronation. but very few songs by Tolkien . I was hoping to hear "O Elbereth, Gilthoniel" at least once.
But I'm very happy that there will be suitable music in TH, and I love the tone of the film, from the little bit I've seen, so far.

As they sang the hobbit felt the love of beautiful things made by hands and by cunning and by magic moving through him, a fierce and a jealous love, the desire of the hearts of dwarves. Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking-stick. He looked out of the window. The stars were out in a dark sky above the trees. He thought of the jewels of the dwarves shining in dark caverns. Suddenly in the wood beyond The Water a flame leapt up—probably somebody lighting a wood-fire—and he thought of plundering dragons settling on his quiet Hill and kindling it all to flames. He shuddered; and very quickly he was plain Mr. Baggins of Bag-End, Under-Hill, again. I can't wait to see what Howard Shore has in store for us with this scene. I wonder what a dwarvish viol looks like, and whether they'll lose them along with the ponies when the goblins attack them in the mountains. Come to think of it, how and why did they bring "viols as big as themselves" and a full-sized harp all the way to Bag End with them? Something tells me they'll be scaled down a bit for the film. Collapsible cellos, perhaps?

I almost passed out watching this!
This has to be the MOST AMAZING video yet!
The dwarves look SO much better in real life than in the photo!
As I watched this, I was somewhere between hyperventilation and joyful delirium.... And just when I would recover from the last surprise, something new would pop up - Cate, John R.D., Gollum saying, "Bless us and splash us, precious!"
And to top it all off, SAURUMAN is back! it was great to Christopher Lee!
I am SOOOOO excited, and the next 14 months shall pass like 14 bazillion years...
Lord Sméagol? Gollum the Great? The Gollum! Eat fish every day, three times a day; fresh from the sea. Most Precious Gollum!

And for those theorizing that it's because he has to cut it off because of the spiders' webs, he's clearly already beardless in the Bag End scenes. He does at least have a decent-looking dwarf nose, but he still looks like a dwelf!

I had thought the instruments might have fallen into that "childish" category and get cut, but if they're still in, the hoods will be. Trust me, PJ has probably heard enough about the hoods already that if by some weird chance they had neglected to put them in, they would doubtless have to go back and do it in pickups later!

I can tell poor fat Bombur is going to be a large part of the comic relief in this troupe. That fat suit is hilariously bouncy. The whole bunch look to be ripe for hilarity, really.

Merry and Pippin's song at the Green Dragon was not entirely made up, part of it was taken from the song Pippin, Sam and Frodo were singing in Woody End right before they hear the scream of the Nazgul, before they get to Maggot's farm.
Pippin's song in Minas Tirith was also taken from the chapter "Three's company".
As for "O Elbereth, Gilthoniel", you can hear it when Frodo and Sam are travelling through the woods and see the elves going to the havens. I don't remember whether the O Elbereth bit is in the movie or not, but it is in the soundtrack.

Considering how much attention was paid to the correct pronunciation of the Elvish in LOTR, I don't think we have much to worry about. It is most likely as you said: the actors have a preconceived way of saying the names, but the directors and Tolkien language experts on set will keep them straight wherever dialogue is concerned.

He's just too much fun to beat up on! But I also mean in a more literal sense, in that Thorin may have been reluctant to take him and Fili along, but did so perhaps out of obligation to their mother Dis, his sister. I wasn't able to get a good look at Fili, but just seeing Kili there among the older, well-bearded fellows made him seem really far out of his element, almost like an outcast. I wonder if he'll be played more as a rebellious kid or as an awkward youngster still finding his feet and trying in vain to gain his uncle's respect.

Thanks for the info, Evernight. I didn't connect it with the Woody End song because it was so sad in the film, while in the original context in Three Is Company, it seemed to me to be a typical walking song--even though it was partially serious in tone, I still imagined the melody as being somewhat on the cheerful side, in true hobbit-fashion.

Gollum's Cave looks like it's staight from John Howe's scetchbook.
I'm little suprised the White Council is going to take place in Rivendell - perhaps I shouldn't be, but for some reason I had just assumed they're going to build a new set for that purpose.
I'm not entirely convinced of the new Elven costumes. Some of the material on Elrond's and Galadriel's costumes look too modern and industrial, not really Medieval enough.
Agreed, let's hope they find a way to get Saruman into the Dol Guldur attack!
Kili looks like a complete wet-eared kid next to real men! XD I can see why you wish they don't bring any more attention to it, but I kind of want the other Dwarves to belittle him and make fun of him, and possibly even consider him to be the ugly one.

So either they'll be tied up but not in sacks, or they will be put into sacks with their heads sticking out. This for the same reason that makes every lead actor in an action movie fight without a helmet, or take it off, or at least raise his face guard in the middle of the action, just to make sure that you can see his face.

are just the same costume in different colour, and perhaps in different texture. But I don't complain, because I really like them. It's Elvish and yet not slavishly identical to what Hugo wore in LotR.
However, the costume on the right look a bit wierd. The colours are (probably intentionally) similar to his Council of Elrond robe, but the shape is all baggy. Maybe it just seems like that because of Hugo's posture, and will look better when he's standing or moving.

Bare arms? And the sheer white one seems to have some silver sparkles that remind me far too much of either my high school prom or that cheap Halloween fabric they sell at Wal-mart. The grey overdress just seems blocky and heavy to me, a long way away from her flowy, beaded gowns of LOTR.

The material might seem better on film. And anyway, I'm happy the new designer isn't just copying Ngila but going for something new. Otherwise I couldn't really respect her that much, I guess.

One them made the comment he didn't have a beard because he was young, so that seems like what they are going with in the film, his beard hasn't all come in yet, which was also one of the ideas tossed about here. I dare say he will get a fair bit of teasing about it and he looks like a young dwarf to me.
Never had a doubt in my mind that RA would make a great Thorin and seeing him in action is even more convincing than the still photo. :)
I just about died when Saruman came on! That was fantastic. And I loved "Daddy" from John Rhys Davies. :)

Which is obviously ment to be a "big girl's dress" a la Arwen's Blood Red etc. They've wanted to create something special, as I assumed. The rest of the costumes seem pretty faithful to the tone of LotR.
Though to be fair, to me the Elven costumes have always seemt a bit too diverse. Some of them are clearly Medieval Europe, some are clearly Asian, and the Dream Gown and the statues are Ancient Greece. I've just explained to myself that the Elves are both immortal and very creative, so they can have more diversity to their dress styles than we humans do.

I felt utter joy seeing that. They all look so incredible. The stills couldn't capture the essance of the characters. I hope the Thorin naysayers are feeling slightly less anti now because he's gonna be amazing!

As you said we only had Gimli in LotR, and they're in line with him enough to me. The waistline could be lower now because they don't need to try to make them look smaller than they are, instead to make them look more robust.

Fili and Kili are eight decades old. Are we really supposed to think that dwarves go around barefaced until they're 70 or so and then stubble starts to grow in? Heck, I'm not yet 30 and my own modest beard rivals Thorin's.
I refer you to my signature: replace "snouts" with "beards", "rhinoplasted" with "shaved", and "Truffles" with "Jewels" and you have the source itself for why dwarves ought to have full beards regardless of their age.
I'm willing to let it slide in the interests of artistic license and making each character unique, but I hold out hope that PJ invents a good reason in-universe for why some of these blokes have such short beards. All I need is for Bilbo to say something along the lines of: "I thought all dwarves had beards like you, Gandalf." A little wink and a shrug and I'd be satisfied.

I really am. And I like quite a few of them myself. I just don't think they tie into LOTR perfectly. This is, of course, just my opinion and I'm not trying to convert anyone. No amount of out-of-film reasoning is going to change my perception of them as being different, though you're welcome to continue if you want.

It stands to reason that they stopped and drank with a fair number of folk on the way. Being musically inclined (instruments and all) I'm sure they'd take the opportunity to learn all the local songs they could, and they chose this one to put Bilbo at ease. 'course, this is all baseless speculation on my part, and it could be that Bilbo will be the one teaching it to the dwarves.

I agree, I'd love an in-canon explanation for shorter beards, especially if it makes for some comic relief involving Freeman. I would also enjoy the dwarves ribbing Kili at every opportunity for being a scrawny and beardless dwarf—I keep having this image of Fili being sent to check something and, to check in with his brother, yells "YOU'RE ADOPTED" back.

At the risk of causing another battleground to form, i too have noticed a change in the costumes and not necessarily for the better. Some are superb, but others you can tell straight off the bat are not a continuation of the quality shown in LotR as masterminded by Ngila Dickson (I have great affection for Ngila both as a costume designer and as a person (although i've never met her) she's fantastically straight-talking in the interviews). I respect Ann Maskrey's difference in style but i don't feel she's nearly as clever a designer as Ngila and there are some elements (such as the low hanging belts on the dwarves) that come across as fairly cheap 'tricks' to compensate for areas where the actors' physiques are lacking.

Some of them seem like big shifts to me, and more the them are working the wrong way through time (like the switch from a flap closure to a button fly on Bilbo's trousers -- the button fly was a much later invention). Still more of it is about what connects with the world as we know it and the parallels it draws. For instance, the Chinese style coats for the dwarves (that button to one side rather than down the middle). Ngila was careful to keep most of the Asian influence confined to the elves (except for Billbo's paisley scarf -- a gift from Rivendell?). Now, as far as I can recall, we never saw such garments in the LOTR movies, so technically they're fair game. But now in my head we've drawn a similarity between the elves and the dwarves that shouldn't exist. Likewise, the square cloak on Nori's costume, which is evocative of Eowyn's starry mantle.
The rest of it is something I have a hard time putting my finger to. I have become quite close to the details of the LOTR costumes over the years (both physically and emotionally in some cases) and there's a subtlety of design that seems to be missing in these costumes. Maybe I'm just not used to such high-res photos, but the trimmings and detailing all seems very overt, to me.
But of course, it all comes down to what your gut tells you about the costumes. For those that love them, more power to you. I can't always explain why I dislike that thing or this detail, but something about these costumes just doesn't sit right with me.

As much as I love the casting of Lee Pace, I'm just slightly worried about how his make-up will turn out. Now they got yet another very dark actor supposed to play a blond Elf, and what they did in LotR didn't always convince me. Especially, his eyebrows. I doubt they're going to dye them, as they didn't dye eyebrows in LotR either.

Khuzdul grammar is based on Semitic languages, but Tolkien didn't create a full Khuzdul lexicon. Just bits and phrases.
He was troubled with the Dwarves' names being "plucked out of Voluspá" for this very reason – it sounded very cheap, and didn't fit in with his more proper mythology.
His answer was that the Dwarf names we see, much like the Hobbit names, Gandalf's name, and many Humans (unless they have Elvish-names) are translations of their true names. Just as Frodo Baggins is actually Maura Labingi, Gimli and Thorin and all the dwarf-names are actually translations of in-universe names.
However, the Dwarves take this a step further. The names they give to outsiders aren't Khuzdul names at all, but Mannish names from the northern languages (such as their neighbours around Lake-town). These are then TRANSLATED into Old Norse, which he used to represent them and make them sound foreign but similar to the English he used to represent the Hobbits and the Bree-landers. (Since the Rohirrim are related to these northern Mannish peoples, they speak a related dialect, which is translated then into Anglo-Saxon, since that is more related to Old Norse than the English that the Hobbits and Bree-landers speak, but also related close enough to their language to make sense).

assuming nothing untoward happens to them, with some living up to 350 years, then a 77 year old dwarf is less than a third of the way through their lives lives. Kili is basically basically like the equivalent of 20 to 24 year old.(and it's not like there aren't some human guys who don't "come into their beards" until they are closer to 30, if ever,some always have a patchy, stringy looking beard--so maybe he's a late bloomer? Maybe not every dwarf is blessed with a beautiful beard, seems like looking at some of the other dwarves?)
Or hell maybe he lost it in a stupid, foolish bet? He wouldn't be the first young person to do something stupid.
To me it's a perfectly good reason and imo it's not something that is all that important to the story, either way.
The way I see it, PJ can choose what he wants to use or not use to a certain extent so long as it doesn't really make a major change to the events of the story. Aside from a few wisecracks and the occasional entanglement the beards don't play a big part of the story. They add a bit of "color" to the dwarven culture and they STILL do, imo, just in a different way because now there are likely reasons the dwarves have different styles of facial hair etc.
There is really no necessity for dwarves to be born with beards and, given dwarves are particularly long-lived, I have no problem with the idea that maybe their beards grow slowly, perhaps with growth speeding up as they age.

Also, is it just me or do some of those "size doubles" not look all that much shorter than some of the actors? :)

Afterall, The Hobbit films haven't arrived on Blu-ray, I'm sure you'll be picking the details in time. I think Ann Maskrey is putting a lot of effort into it, just like Dickson.
I do think to myself that the simpler trimmings for the Dwarves is justifiable as they are smaller than Men and Elves, although I have to admit Elrond's purple costume is rather fruity.
Now I haven't had a chance to comment on this wonderful, wonderful video, as so many of my comments would be redundant in this thread, but one thing I don't think many have commented on is how much more Dwarvish the actors look on camera, definitely their proportions and the way their training to lower their centre of gravity has paid off.

And just after I was convinced someone was only messing with the promo pic(s). Really makes you wonder about the point of the edited second photo... I fear his scenes will be quite jarring and distracting because of the ridiculous axe sticking out of his forehead. Oh well.
Other than that, pretty much everything looks great. Very nice to see the camaraderie and chemistry between the actors, the little snippets of actual scenes, Cate just stunningly beautiful as Galadriel, etc. It's very generous of PJ and crew to be showing us all this stuff, I mean what other film has done/does anything similar? Not that I have followed the production of any other movie like this, and of course the scale and length of the shoot of these movies makes The Hobbit kind of a special case. Anyway, it's much appreciated, so thanks to the production for sharing a bit of the journey with us!

In the third picture, it looks like they did, in fact, do something to Armitage's nose. Looking at photos of Armitage from a side profile, it seems the "beak" quality has been pronounced somewhat.
Also, while I was thrilled to bits to see Lee at the end, I also can't help but feel a bit bad for him. I'm assuming he'll be acting out his part alone, going by the green screens.

Nice to see see the dwarves, they certainly look good, even kili looked a bit better.
The end with Christopher Lee was perfect
Oh and whilst I will happily admit I have no real knowledge of costumes or clothing I thought Cate looked great ( a wistful sigh should be imagined here )

How much of Dean O'Gorman as Fili did we see in there? I think that was him when they first said 'Fili' but I can't tell which shots are Rob Kazinsky and which ones are Dean.
Are they going to have to reshoot the Bag End material due to the replacement, or did that happen before they started filming?

They may go with the explaination that Dis and her husband are dead. I see Fili and Kili as too young and awkward to be on the quest and being brought along because their uncle doesn't know what else to do with them, especially since Gimli is older than Fili and Kili and is made to stay home.

Did anyone else notice that balins double looks too tall relative to the other doubles? He should be the shortest dwarf double and does not appear to be so.
You would think they'd try to get size doubles that were approximately the same relative size. For example Dori's actor is clearly shorter than some of the other actorst, yet his double appears to be among the taller ones. Kili is clearly taller than Dori and Ori, yet his size double is the same size. Even the "old Fili" seems to be, like Kili, among the taller actors, yet it looks like his size double is rather on the small side. (BTW, did we ever find out the real story behind why Rob Krazinsky left/was let go?)
But I guess it's hard to find a double who fits all the various requirements and maybe the height thing really matters less than of the other requirements in terms of how hard/easy it would be cover up.
Re: Kili's nose - it always looked to me like he had a bit of business done to the end of his nose, it was just somehow different. Same with Armitage's nose.

I hope not, because now that you've brought up that possibility, my concern is that instead of having him transform between man and bear, the filmmakers have decided that the character would be in some kind of permanent half-man/half-beast state. So that the image is how he would normally look all the time and not as he would look in the middle of his transformation. Again, I hope that this is not the case at all.

Your guess, regarding that it could be a photo of Beorn in mid-transformation, may be on the mark.
I did a little research on-line and came across the following (unattributed) statement in Wikipedia that "Comments made by Weta workshop indicate that in the adaptation, Beorn's transformation from man to bear will be a major special effects sequence." So perhaps that really is an image of Beorn in mid-transformation.

While I fully support the idea of using some practical effects in Beorn's transformation, this creature does not have black hair. Beorn has black hair and a black beard. He transforms into a black bear.
They HAVE to get that right. Tolkien couldn't have been more clear if he tried.

I doubt that the elves have immortal clothes (i.e. they last forever, longer than 60 years and are strain-resistant, flame-retardant, don't develop holes or accumulate dirt, discolor, etc.) so it makes sense to me that they would need different clothes anyway, and probably don't wear the same outfit every day regardless; so we didn't see their full LOTR wardrobes anyway. I loved Galadriel's headband, and I'm glad they didn't just rummage through the LOTR wardrobe.
Anyway, if Galadriel is in Rivendell, then that makes me wonder if we will see Lothlorien at all? And it also seems like they've already filmed at least some of the scenes where Liv Tyler could have had a cameo, so maybe it won't happen now. I like the dwarves much more in person than I did in the images that were released; they seem softer and more likeable.

and laughed robustly through the video. Getting the dwarves 'in action' (as per above mention) and seeing a hint of some character references was fun.
Peter is terribly funny and part of that is realizing he is so egoless.
Hints of the music set me off as well.
The dwarves i mostly liked, but i'd swear there was some 'mixed breeding' going on, (following suit from Homo Sapien/ Neanderthal happening) for i see human, elven and Clingon characteristics among them ha!.

I've been looking for any place the 3rd production video was being discussed but never found it! Until now!!! Yey!
So here I come far too late lol
- Mark Hadlow is hilarious! Well most of the dwarf actors seem very funny and getting along perfectly. I love that! Makes me giddy and reminds me of all the behind the scenes clips from LotR!
- I prefer Dean's Fili over Rob's Fili I have to say. I know Rob is about the same age as Aidan (Kili) and Dean's seven years older, but I think Dean goes along better with the brother. I think Rob's Fili looks way older actually. Makes me wonder if they indeed had intended as Fili as the oldest all along.
- Speaking of Fili - does Dean have that mischivious smile ALL the time? It's awesome
- You guys are breaking my heart with all your theories about Kili and his lack of beard. That the other dwarves will tease him and he'll have to prove himself and then... that ending... oh gosh Peter Jackson is going to break our hearts in 2013! I just know!
- Still not digging Nori. Very dissapointing because Jed's awesome.
- Ori (Brown) is freaking adorable! I love him! He looks so awkward yet very cute and polite lol
- Ian McKellen is awesome as always. A legend! It's his kind face that makes him perfect as Gandalf!
- People keep saying Kili looks so human, but I thought Thorin looked full on human warrior when he screams "We have to move now!" Awesome though. I personally love both characters despite having less beard.
- Cate!!!!!!!!
- And Martin isn't much in it, but gosh I think he's perfect! He reminds me so much of Pippin!
- Next time I really just hope to see anything with Kili and Fili in the same frame! lol
