GDT's fingerprints are evident [In reply to] Can't Post

(IMO). If not, the current batch of dwarves revealed so far would most likely be looking much more homogeneous.

(BTW, I was glad when PJ was announced as director. I was aftraid that with GDT, the heart and charm of the story might've taken a back seat to his unusual visuals).

Dwarfing Costume trick... [In reply to] Can't Post

The costume trick to make the actors seem more dwarf height seems to have been done in reverse to what Nigela Dickson did with the elves. With the elves the costumes were hung from higher up, from chest, to give illusion of tallness. Well with the dwarves they seem to be hung much lower (below hip line) to create sense of shortness. This does not seem to have been done with Kili-Fili image so they seem almost human. I beleive hanging their costume lower in the same fashion might make them fit in better with the rest of the group. Perhaps it was done deliberately (trick messes up hotness factor...hehehe).

Welcome back! / [In reply to] Can't Post

Brothers, sisters,
I was Elf once.
We danced together
Under the Two Trees.
We sang as the soft gold of Laurelin
And the bright silver of Telperion,
Brought forth the dawn of the world.
Then I was taken.

Brothers, sisters,
In my torment I kept faith,
And I waited.
But you never came.
And when I returned you drew sword,
And when I called your names you drew bow.
Was my Eldar beauty all,
And my soul nothing?

So be it.
I will return your hatred,
And I am hungry.

Bombur looks almost exactly as I imagined him! [In reply to] Can't Post

except my Bombur is older.

Even with the Empire pictures with the dwarves in the background, he was the first thought that came to mind!

Ugh.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Not to get off subject.....but Kili is SOOOOO out of place when looking at all of them - and maybe that is intentional. I mean if Kili comes in with this Inigo-Montoya-You-killed-my-father-Prepare-to-die kind of attitude and Fili with this Viking-like-Erol-Flynn-swashbuckling attitude, it may work. But really, I am still very disappointed in Kili.

Bombur looks like he just saw a mountain of cram in Rivendell and ready to destroy with his gullet, Bifur just lookskind of......damaged and may be a little slow if you catch my drift. Bofur looks like he is up to no good, a bit of a trickster and dare I say he looks ready to fly with that hat.....can you imagine him flying through the air with knees bent - hammer raised above him head and SPLAT - down on a goblin noggin.

We need Thorin now....and I am officially scared to think what he will look like.....

Like these guys... [In reply to] Can't Post

I image these three are going to bring a rough-and-tumble, "English blue-collar worker" element to the group, and will probably be quite funny, (they look a bit "Monty Python"-esque), particularly poor Bifur with a chunk of metal sticking out of his head!

Fili and Kili have really grown on me as well...shaping up to be a promising on-screen depiction of Thorin & Co.

I would rather be watching Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" and Ridley Scott's "Prometheus"...it's going to be a long few years.

Agreed [In reply to] Can't Post

I guess the problem of having 13 indistinguishable garden gnomes has been put to bed.
I have found this roll-out very encouraging and intriguing.
But next up is Balin. I'm very invested in Balin (as imagined by ME). A sort of Father Christmas+John Wayne+Richard Burton.
But I'll try to keep an open mind and not dig in my heels

Nesbit for the win! [In reply to] Can't Post

I have a new favorite, and it's Bofur! He looks so much more like a miner than the others. I like the idea that this group can be rag-tag enough that some are more like warriors, some are less so. Bofur definitely works for me.

The other two are an interesting couple of guys. That braid on Bombur is so wacky! And I'm just as mystified about Bifur's forehead thingy as everyone else. I want a story and an explanation!

Er... [In reply to] Can't Post

My guess would be that these designs have a lot to do with GDT... I mean, did we see anything even remotely like this in LOTR?

...and that smile, and those dimples...

Okay, that does it. Bofur is my "hottie" too! Laugh

Lower-class Dwarves, rubbing elbows with the "royals" - oh, this is going to be fun!

I tend to like characters nobody else cares about:

I have to say, if there is one dwarf out of the ten revealed so far [In reply to] Can't Post

the one that I would want to hang out with the most is definitely James nesbitt's Bofur. That smile and look of mischief just seems so charming!

But do keep in mind... [In reply to] Can't Post

They have a totally new person in charge of costumes for The Hobbit, so you can't really pinpoint it on just one person. While much of the crew for these films are the same, there are new people as well, and that can influence things creatively, just as much as a different director can.
