I was wondering if they'd show up today [In reply to] Can't Post

Bombur looks like a 19th century aristocrat to me (and he has hair everywhere -except- a beard?). I would've expected a Hobbit mayor to look like that really (well except that he may have too much facial hair.)
Bofur looks fine.
Bifur looks like his wig and beard were applied quite hastily...

Eh...

Hmm.

Okay.

My first reaction is...um...no.

Bombur looks like a dimwit. The guy in the middle (Bifur? Bofur? Which one is that?) would be fine, without the stupid hat. And the other one (Bofur? Bifur?) looks like some kind of demented owl with that hair.

But I'll say what I said for all the others. As long as they get the character right, I don't really care what they look like.

Bifur puts Nori to shame in the outlandish hair stakes, as far as I'm concerned. I also love what they've done with the beards, particularly Bombur's (although it is more of a mustache!). We pretty much know now to expect anything... the designs have pretty much been from wacky to safe (Gloin) to dam near silly (kili)...

I'm really curious to see what they've done with the rest of them, although from the Bilbo pictures we have a fair idead, there's a bald one to come and an aged white haired one... and then there's Thorin !

I never expected to get so much detail and diversity from the dwarves everytime I thought of Hobbit being converted to a movie. This is phenomenal, and no matter what we get from the missing dwarves, as a group, these dwarves are going to look magnificent!

Guillermo del Toro Influence... [In reply to] Can't Post

I suspect that the final dwarf designs have been signigicantly influenced by Guillermo del Toro's original sketches. It's hard for me to believe that the new designs would have been started completely from scratch after GDT left the project. del Toro's vision and design aesthetics seeps into the new images. I think it will be the same case for Smaug and other characters. These design influences will be part of GDT's lasting contribution to the project....

And I thought Gloin looked like Obelix! [In reply to] Can't Post

Bombur looks fine—I particularly like his beard necklace, heh. I think he'll really shine once we see him in action. Bofur looks fine as well, but Bifur is definitely the best of this lot. He still exudes "DWARF!" without relying on visual tropes used for the other dwarves. Without the high-res, I can't be sure, but the prosthetics are either absent or minimal and it looks great. I love his hammer, his doofy hat (which his mom or his sweetheart totally made him), and I love his attitude.

I also absolutely love that they are working class dwarves, which might make for some fun tension (or at least jibes) at the more noble dwarves in the company.

My favorite so far. Hilarious! Bifur has the best look of the bunch, IMO. Not too cartoonish, but not too cliched dwarf either. Something about him seems rooted in history... Something of a Briton tribal elder-look to him.

And Bombur does have a beard...Or rather, a beard necklace! Or is that a moustache necklace?

I see the GDT influence in all of the dwarves. They all have a certain GDT edge/quirkiness to them. (The same way that I would notice had say, Tim Burton designed the dwarves). ( guess we'll know to what extent in the "behind the scenes" clips in the DVD's.

A reflection on the gist so far.. [In reply to] Can't Post

It hadn't occurred to me, until a trawl through google images and a couple of books for half an hour or so prompted the remembrance of the thought, but there are very few depictions of the company of dwarves that distinguish obviously between them as individually recognisable characters.
The images which are kicking about partly focus on the group from a distant vantage point (Alan Lee style) or actually seem to promote the similarity of the dwarves to highlight the centrality and uniqueness of Bilbo by contrast to the rest.
The reason that I'm posting it here, in case you were getting impatient, is that the images released so far, and indeed the wide ranging reactions on the boards seem to show that the film team are taking quite the opposite approach and using everything from weapons, to hair and beards, from prosthetics to build and age to ring the changes. (And indeed the fact that we are discussing our reactions to the look of individual dwarves rather than the aesthetic of them as a group - often with wildly differing responses)
I wonder whether this is
(a) true
(b) a question or characterisation
(c) a question ability to identify and remember
(d) a response to the film medium
(e) a response to the change to two films a year apart
And therefore whether the existing visualisations of the dwarves (even by Alan and John) are closer to or further away from the book than the ones we are now seeing in terms of the dwarves as unique characters or a group counterpoint to Bilbo.

He is one of only five dwarves who get a really deatailed physical description, and as outlandish as a few of the others have been, a little blue shading in the grey seems tame by comparison. There really is no excuse not to stay true to text on this one now. lol

I'm utterly fascinated by it—will they even explain it beyond Bilbo waving at his head while gesturing to Bofur and someone shaking their head about it? Is it a hammer head embedded in there? Is it a nail? Was it even an accident, or is it one of those things where a hole in the head is considered good? (I assume it's an accident, but it's a thought!) It's a very interesting choice.

Dwarfing Costume trick... [In reply to] Can't Post

The costume trick to make the actors seem more dwarf height seems to have been done in reverse to what Nigela Dickson did with the elves. With the elves the costumes were hung from higher up, from chest, to give illusion of tallness. Well with the dwarves they seem to be hung much lower (below hip line) to create sense of shortness. This does not seem to have been done with Kili-Fili image so they seem almost human. I beleive hanging their costume lower in the same fashion might make them fit in better with the rest of the group. Perhaps it was done deliberately (trick messes up hotness factor...hehehe).

Brothers, sisters,
I was Elf once.
We danced together
Under the Two Trees.
We sang as the soft gold of Laurelin
And the bright silver of Telperion,
Brought forth the dawn of the world.
Then I was taken.

Brothers, sisters,
In my torment I kept faith,
And I waited.
But you never came.
And when I returned you drew sword,
And when I called your names you drew bow.
Was my Eldar beauty all,
And my soul nothing?

So be it.
I will return your hatred,
And I am hungry.

Not to get off subject.....but Kili is SOOOOO out of place when looking at all of them - and maybe that is intentional. I mean if Kili comes in with this Inigo-Montoya-You-killed-my-father-Prepare-to-die kind of attitude and Fili with this Viking-like-Erol-Flynn-swashbuckling attitude, it may work. But really, I am still very disappointed in Kili.

Bombur looks like he just saw a mountain of cram in Rivendell and ready to destroy with his gullet, Bifur just lookskind of......damaged and may be a little slow if you catch my drift. Bofur looks like he is up to no good, a bit of a trickster and dare I say he looks ready to fly with that hat.....can you imagine him flying through the air with knees bent - hammer raised above him head and SPLAT - down on a goblin noggin.

I image these three are going to bring a rough-and-tumble, "English blue-collar worker" element to the group, and will probably be quite funny, (they look a bit "Monty Python"-esque), particularly poor Bifur with a chunk of metal sticking out of his head!

Fili and Kili have really grown on me as well...shaping up to be a promising on-screen depiction of Thorin & Co.

I would rather be watching Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" and Ridley Scott's "Prometheus"...it's going to be a long few years.

They have a totally new person in charge of costumes for The Hobbit, so you can't really pinpoint it on just one person. While much of the crew for these films are the same, there are new people as well, and that can influence things creatively, just as much as a different director can.

I never expected to get so much detail and diversity from the dwarves everytime I thought of Hobbit being converted to a movie. This is phenomenal, and no matter what we get from the missing dwarves, as a group, these dwarves are going to look magnificent!

It just makes the fact that they are making two Hobbit movies even more relevant now.

You know, to me Bofur(I think? James Nesbitt) looks EVERY bit as "human" as Kili supposedly does, maybe even more so, at least Kili looks a bit exotic. :) And his nose is decidely NON big or bulbous at all.

The only real difference is that Bofur is just older and his belt is hanging lower. He's not even that heavy beyond what looks like a bit of a beer gut. Same with Fili, the only reason he looks "heavier" is because his costume has that big fur collar but if you really look at it, he's pretty slender too and his "beard" appears to be just a rather short goatee.

IMO the problem isn't really that Kili looks too human--he looks no more human than either of those two-- it's that he's too "goodlooking"(I mean, it's not a problem for me, but for some apparently:)).

Yet logically if there can be dwarves who look like Bofur and look like Fili, there can be dwarves who look like Kili. (and I still think Kili's going to be the ugly dwarf so his supposed good looks will not only be not quite so shiny in the actual film but will not be considered a plus either:))

ETA: and just to ask here as well, has anyone gotten a hold of a higher res/larger photo of Fili and Kili as are available for the other dwarves.

Not to mention [In reply to] Can't Post

PJ, as director, is the one who signs off on all designs, regardless of where they came from. IIRC most of the designs in LOTR came from Art Department staff, not the director.

PJ stated early on that he wanted 13 individual dwarfs with distinct personalities. (The temptation to scale back the party to a more manageable number must have been staggering... I think we are just now getting a glimpse as to why.) Assuming that for each dwarf their dialogue will be close to being as limited or non-existent as in the book, the best way to ensure that we are able to differentiate among them and get a taste of their unique personalities is via their appearance.

Having said that, the factor most likely affecting their appearance is that there is a different costume designer/head of wardrobe than the one that worked on LOTR. Who ever they are, they likely are trying to make their own mark with TH rather than slavishly copying Ngila Dickson's aesthetic. Should point out as well that although many crew from LOTR are working on TH, the new costume designer most likely brought on staff they usually work with.

Hate to disagree with your Sir Dennis.. [In reply to] Can't Post

...but the vision for the main characters of the Hobbit was likely established by the writers and directors, which means PJ, GDT, Philippa and Fran, and it is a very strong possibility that they asked for very specific types of looks and costumes for the dwarves.I don't think it is at all possible that a new costume designer just up and decided to go in a completely new direction with dwarf looks. There was most definitely some very heavy writer/director input here. These images aren't just images, they tell very specific stories, and I'm sure they asked for that.

I have to say that, the more I see of the dwarves, the more completely stoked I am about this group of actors/characters. Bravo to PJ and crew for having the courage to take on so many characters (they could have taken the easy route and cut the number of dwarves down to a more manageable size), and for giving us such a delightful mix. Well yes the director/writers [In reply to] Can't Post

would have made suggestions. And certainly having final say on designs means that they can ask for designs to be reworked or scrapped altogether, depending.

But there would be little point in hiring professional designers etc if their talent and vision was not expected to shine through. I would even go so far as to say that no self respecting designer would work on a film, no matter how big it was, if all they were allowed to do was act as a police sketch artist.

it makes a difference when you see them up and close. As for these dwarfs, Bombur is the most "intriguing" one for me, he reminds me of a character in Alice in Wonderland or something. And Bifur's hair will compete with Nori's originality.

And Bofur is the second smiling dwarf along with Fili. Each dwarf is showing to be very unique and not really blended as i thought they would be. They will all somehow stand out from one another and i really like that.

I think you underestimate the designer's influence [In reply to] Can't Post

While PJ signs off on the overall look of each character, it's up to the costume designer and her crew to make them a reality and that will inform a hundred little details - like the exact height of a boot or the decision to use leather trim instead of embroidery or cotton velvet instead of silk - all of which can add up to a very different view than a different designer would make given the same sketch.

Hopefully that angle won't be used too much... [In reply to] Can't Post

In the original text I don't recall any of the dwarves poking fun at Bombur about his weight. The novel's narrator (Tolkien) may have done so in a light-hearted way, appropriate for a children's book (as in "Poor Bombur had to be pulled from the river/dragged through the forest/stuffed into a barrel/hoisted up the mountain, etc...."). Hopefully, this same approach will be used in the film. I could see the visual comedy being played up in the film, but it would be nice if his size never really bothers the other dwarves, almost like it wasn't a big deal for them in a non-judgemental way. Not to be too PC about it, but hopefully the film doesn't have to resort to the cliche of making him have an eating disorder, or having the other dwarves mocking/cursing him over his weight for a few laughs.

I love them all! [In reply to] Can't Post

I just think it's amazing how from just one picture of each you get an immediate sense of exactly what they are like.

James Nesbitt is definitely going to be my favourite, I think - I love his pic so much! He's clearly the cheeky chappie who will give as good as he gets if the more royal ones give him some gyp! Bifur on the other hand would just withdraw into his shell, and Bombur wouldn't even understand what's going on!

I do wonder if Bombur's braid is a pigtail looped round his front. It does look a bit as if it's thinner on the left than on the right.

Another point is that Bofur isn't fat at all, and he does look like a dwarf, so maybe Kili will be ok in the film. He's the only one I'm still not sure about.

Aha! Now we know who shaved Kili! [In reply to] Can't Post

It was Bifur, with one swift swipe of his giant straight razor! Obviously he's the barber of the group. Wink

My initial reactions weren't that great, but once again I'm liking them more as time goes by.

Bombur's clothes need more dwarven influence, somehow. I get that he is working class, but his costume is rather Hagrid-ish.

I really don't like Bofur's hat....

Bifur's wild hair and beard are a nice touch, but the stripes are a bit much (and mar my hopes for Saruman to have a tad more raven in his beard and hair). That thing in his head worries me. Crazy

And once again, I love the weapons. Even Bombur's utensil! Bofur's tool is great, and leads me to hope that Dwalin will have a nice war hammer (or hammers). I look forward to as much bashing as hacking!

I'm amazed at how much personality is shown by each of the company in just these first photos. Despite my nitpicks, I am totally stoked!

One thing that strikes me about the group images.... [In reply to] Can't Post

... is just how much space they take up when put together - and this is only ten of them. Obvious, I know, but when you actually see them lined up it makes it real.

I think it was brave of them to take on so many main characters and they're doing an amazingly good job at making individuals of them, while still making them gel as a group.

Well there's no denying it's an improvement on Fili and Kili [In reply to] Can't Post

Quite a significant one, but not the best of the dwarves we've seen so far (Oin and Gloin still press my traditionalist buttons).

Bombur looks fairly cool- certainly in terms of his face he's much like i would expect, with the 'beard' being more two vast mutton-chops allowing the window to see his double chin. I think i would have preferred that his long plait would be cut in half giving him two long 'walrus' type plaits rather than the single 'string of onions' that you see on cartoons of frenchmen. His costume though doesn't impress me nearly so much. Green is not a colour that has been particularly associated with middle-earth dwarves (being an earthy sort i would have preferred an ochre or something a bit more on those lines). His 'The King and I' style trousers complete with cummerbund don't do it for me either, and personally i would have preferred a few more layers (the trademark of Ngila Dickson's costumes).

By comparison i'm very keen on Bofur's costume but it's a bit of a pity he doesn't fill it out as well as a dwarf should. I did pick up on the point Marillaraina makes that the proportions really aren't that dwarvish whatsoever- all the mass is towards the extremities as opposed to being focused around the trunk and the head. He does remind me of someone, i'm not sure exactly who but i want to say Richard Hammond. The hat i actually don't mind in itself, i just wish his head filled it a bit better. It's plain though given Bifur's injury that Bofur will be the 'voice' of the group- a relationship i'll talk about with....

Bifur. Bifur is a very traditional dwarf at first sight, lots of hair, lots of beard, round bodied (his head is still a little bit thinner than is traditional for the LotR dwarf proportions). His halberd is a lovely piece of kit and i do like the differences in the shades of his hair- it gives him a nicely dishevelled, inconsistent look. Of course the major cause for concern is the piece of ironmongery lodged in his bonce. I'm kind of half and half on it at the moment since it does suddenly give him a character all of his own- he's the bright young star of the mining world, the most effective foreman there ever was until the day of his accident. Now he's a slurring, twitching babbler, often completely unaware of the going's on but occasionally given to windows of complete clarity and lucidity, almost a Rowley Berkin type character only brain-damaged rather than drunk. The relationship between him and his more mentally agile cousin Bofur (presumably Bifur is an only child without parents so has to rely on his cousins as his nearest next of kin) is almost like that between Anthony La Paglia and Robbie Coltrane's characters in the final episodes of 'Frasier'- you can just imagine Bifur spouting something that sounds like gibberish to everyone and then Bofur translating 'That's right Bifur, there is a route round Mirkwood to the north, why can't we use that?' On the other hand, i'm not sure whether such a visceral piece of damage is quite 'Tolkienian'- it's very PJ and i'm sure it'll work great on film but i can't imagine it's the kind of thing Tolkien would write, particularly if it makes a character imbecilic. Compared to the sins of PJ in other places though, for one minor dwarf i'll happily accept it (i can always 'airbrush' it out of my mental readings if it gets too much).

So yes, i'm not quite Gloin with dwarven enthusiasm with this bunch, but at least they're a good lot of characters.

Definitely brave. [In reply to] Can't Post

I remember the critics (who hadn't read the books) giving them heat with FotR, because the amount of characters seemed overwhelming to some people. With 13 dwarves, they better well make them all different and really stand out from each other, because chances are, a lot of folks who see the movie will just be casual people wanting a good time at the movies, never having read the book. This is why I think they've gone the route they have.

I was hoping to read your thoughts on these guys. I actually thought of Bombur as more of the mentally-challenged, waste of space sort of character that will cause nothing but trouble. I didn't really get the same vibe from Bifur that you did though. I kind of think he'll be the hardened, slightly crazy, but really tough SOB of the lot. The one that isn't afraid to sort of go straight at the danger and take out some orcs. Interesting theory about the brain-damaged personality though.

I kind of see him as the crazed one when the going gets tough- as soon as he processes there's danger about he'll be there snarling maniacally, weapon raised ready to impale the first person to come near him. I imagine he'll be quite a twitchy, nervous fighter- the kind of person who bumps into his friend's back and fearing it's an enemy takes a swing at them. It should be a real laugh for Kircher to play.

Disappointing - didn´t like these [In reply to] Can't Post

I´ve been very satisfied with what I´ve seen of the dwarves till now and how they all look so different. This time around, however, I´m disappointed with the choices they´ve made. Bombur and Bofur´s look is just too exaggerated, leaning far too much on a cartoon/comic book style. Bombur just looks silly and even if a character isn´t the smartest of the bunch, you don´t have to express it overtly through his facial expression. Bofur´s hair and beard are allowed to dominate the overall look of the character totally.

Bifur, though, is fine with me. The hat only appears as a distinguishing detail, not as the dominant feature of the character.

I agree with you about Bombur's costume, DrDeath [In reply to] Can't Post

When I first saw the picture I thought he looked good but on closer inspection, using the high-res picture and lightening it so the details show, his style looks too far removed from the others to me. I think he'd have looked better with some kind of low-belted tunic; the huge baggy trousers, tight jumper and sash, look more like something from the Arabian Nights (though I daresay the inspiration was probably Obelix). Doesn't really work for me. Also he doesn't seem to have any of the 'dwarven' angular designs. The bouclé fabric they've used for his trousers reminds me terribly of a coat my Mum used to wear in the distant past - I always hated it and it snagged on everything!

But whatever - could be worse and it is only one photo. He might look better moving around...

Well this is interesting [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm glad they decided to make Bombur suitably fat and funny-looking (I actually laughed when I saw him); I don't mind the absence of a proper chin-beard, as the absurdly bushy sideburns and the 'noose' of plaited hair around his neck more than make up for it. Is that some kind of pot he's holding in lieu of a weapon? I'm not sure if I like the combination of obesity and ginger hair – it reminds me uncomfortably of Harry Knowles, and also of a certain Scotsman who must not be named from Austin Powers. Not really what I want from The Hobbit; I would have preferred them to make one of the more normal-looking Dwarves ginger instead (Bifur or Bofur, or even Kili; ginger is closer to his original blonde).

Bofur looks like a sturdy, reliable, carefree fellow. Snazzy axe. There's really not that much to say about him; he's probably the most normal-looking, middle-of-the-road Dwarf we've seen so far. Perfectly acceptable.

As several people have noted, Bifur looks like a demented owl, but I don't mind; he's got the bushy, head-encircling hair and beard of a true Gimli-style Dwarf, although the designers seem to have been thinking outside the Gimli-box a bit more than when they created Oin and Gloin. Differentiating the colour of facial hair and head-hair was an interesting touch, and that Dwarven spear is indescribably cool.

Overall I'm very satisfied with these three; they're about as good as the Nori/Ori/Dori trio, not quite as sublime as Oin/Gloin, and definitely better than the Fili/Kili (although the latter really dragged the former down). I give Bombur/Bofur/Bifur seven thumbs up. Angelic

This set isn't bad. I am thinking that Bombur's clothes might be a bit out of place by intention since he is so large. Something a bit more flowy and handmade since they can't find clothes for him in the shops.

Not a big fan of Bofur's hat but it might indicate a connection to the northern lands of Middle Earth.

When I saw The Two Towers EE in theaters recently, plenty of people laughed at the jokes. I think it's more because they provide a bit of emotional relief from a pretty intense movie (especially on the big screen) than because they're particularly hilarious. If they are using Bifur as a play on "bifurcate" (in the sense if dividing into two branches,) they might also be going for a split-personality disorder with him as a result of the accident, somewhat as DrDeath suggested.

You'd think they'd have enough trouble distinguishing 13 dwarves, without splitting one into two personalities. ;)

Time for a 'Hobbit' filk? [In reply to] Can't Post

That almost sounds like a challenge! So who will be the first one to actually write the "Hero of Lake-town" filk-song based on the song "The Hero of Canton" in the "Jaynestown" episode of Firefly? It might start like this:

Bard.
The man they call Bard...

I'm delighted to see such impressive attention to detail - just like in the LOTR movies, especially when there's an added bit of subtle humor to it. I bet we see lots of little personal details like that that will further serve to set these wonderful characters apart.

Don't know if it supports or undermines the theory, but Bifur translates from the Old Norse as something like "Trembler."

Bofur [In reply to] Can't Post

You can see Bofur (and Bifur I think) around the table in the Empire picture of Bag End and they look much more 'real' than they do here. I think these pictures have been 'stylized' (if that's the word I'm looking for) to a degree and look much more cartoony that what we will eventually see on screen.

That Empire Pic [In reply to] Can't Post

Judging from that picture, I'm going to guess that Dwalin is the one with the white beard and the bald one is Balin (as we all know full well which one Thorin is).

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

If Tolkien was writing the movie script... [In reply to] Can't Post

... I think the Old Norse meaning might very stand a chance of playing some part in Bifur's more detailed characterisation (although -- who knows precisely what traits the word 'trembler' might contribute).

However, the English meaning of Bifur (or at least bifurcation) could've been suggestive when the actual screenwriters began their necessary task of fleshing out Tolkien's rather rough character sketches (well, rough in some cases).

The good, the bad and the ugly [In reply to] Can't Post

Mixed feelings! We can see that the costumes and weapons are wonderfully detailed, as always. I now think Fili actually looks fantastic – he's got the prosthetic 'Gimli-esque' touches that make him believable as a member of the Dwarven race but still allow the actor's face to shine through, and that twinkle in his eyes is certainly endearing (and for some reason reminds me of Tom Hardy's character from Inception). On the other hand, it's now crystal clear that Kili doesn't have a beard... of any description... whatsoever. Designer stubble all the way. He's even more of an Aragolas than I thought he was. I just don't understand how they could get Fili so right but get Kili so wrong.

Bofur is still fine. One presumes he won't always be wearing that ridiculous hat.

But I still hate Bifur. Or, rather, I hate that thing sticking out of his head. Even in modern times with modern medicine, you simply can't survive with a chunk of metal imbedded in your brain. Fantasy, or good fantasy, must still abide by certain rules of believability, unless your name is Mary Sue and you're writing bad fan fiction. Certainly [In reply to] Can't Post

For sure, you can tell they are. All promo shots are done this way, you see them every year for tv shows. Actors are shot individually (to ensure everyone has the best look/pose) and then merged together. I don't think they'll have been shot against green screen though, shots like this are either done on a white background or on a set (if shot requires an elaborate background, like the Battlestar/Lost 'last supper' photos, it's easier to take photos of the actors posed on the set on by one and then merge them together than to insert the background).

These have been shot on a plain background, as you can tell from the feet that the background we see is not what they were originally standing on. You can tell that they were shot individually too, from where the characters have been placed over each other (i.e. where they 'overlap'). The person doing the photoshop work would've probably first grouped them together, then put the background in, and finally worked on the details (such as blending the edges with the background and adding in fake shadows). I doubt it was fully automated either, work like this needs to be done by hand.

Something went horribly wrong when they were doing Kili's hand though. No idea why it wasn't caught. The rest of the work looks fairly good. Ironically, the rest of the Kili/Fili image is actually a lot better than the others!

Kili's hands [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm guessing Aidan didn't have his sword during the photoshoot, so he had to fake holding one, and thus held his hands in a position that didn't quite fit the picture they had of the sword. The person who photoshopped it either forgot to hide a layer or was trying to be an amazingly fast photoshopper who consequently didn't pay attention to what he was doing.

The only thing that makes me think green screen... [In reply to] Can't Post

I posted it in the Oin/Gloin thread: If you compare the backgrouinds of Oin/Gloin and Nori/Ori/Dori, you find that they're the same but slightly metamorphosed between the two (the shapes have changed organically and have shifted in position relative to one another.) To me, it indicates that the background was either action-footage of some kind of fog wall or else cgi of a moving pattern, with the two photos being several frame elapses apart. It's not something that would have occurred as a result of 'shop blending, to my eye.

Of course, it is still possible that they used individual frames of footage and inserted them into the white background as you describe... wand, lasso, feathering, etc.. But the edges still have a different look that I'm not used to, and I just thought they might be taking advantage of some of the new capabilities they're using for editing composite shots in the film.

The dinosaurs tried to take down the polydactyls [In reply to] Can't Post

that's why they started strapping laser beams to their heads, but unfortunately they ended up hitting each other instead.
And that is the real reason why the dinosaurs went extinct.

Some who have read the book, or at any rate have reviewed it, have found it boring, absurd, or contemptible; and I have no cause to complain, since I have similar opinions of their works, or of the kinds of writing they evidently prefer.

That was just a bit of fun really. -Loki, Thor

I wish I could love the productions team's dwarven hair/makeup choices, but alas. Not to my taste.
