Hi Marten, welcome to TORN! [In reply to] Can't Post

Your comment was posted in response to this message, and it might appear that you were responding directly to Delrond.

You are probably viewing in Flat Mode, which makes it difficult to keep track of the conversation. You might want to try Threaded Mode, because it is visually easier to place your response.

In the upper-right corner of each post, there's a link: Reply to This Post. That links your comment to that particular post and might cause someone to think you are replying directly to them.

Navigating TORN is a little different from other sites, but I'm sure you'll quickly get the hang of it. Feel free to post a message on Feedback if you have any questions, or PM one of the Admins. Look forward to seeing you around!

I'm all with THAT! [In reply to] Can't Post

Think about it...13 principle Dwaves, 13 different physical features is the only way we could disquences.. them apart,,, each needs to be unquie!

I love the idea of some Bald, some very Hairy,
some with jewerly tied into their sorta Dwavf ..........."DRED-LOCKS"?

Because Tolkien introduced us to each, in many ways, in the First Chapter...
by the time Bilbo has to join them the next morning...
we have a Good CharACTOR... recogntion for each.

Then when things get really Dark, Trollshaus, Later Goblin-Kings Headquarters, Mirkwood...etc...
any close-up of each,
even the youngest member of the audience will know which one is which?.

There is secondary scene later, that allows anyone Still Confused "as to who is who?" the Rivendale RestHome? in the Light of day. I trust the make-up department to shine like there is NO Tommorrow with the Look of each!
Yeah Team!
(The Art of Make-up will set a new Standard in 3D, soon.....so get your pencils out?""

Reminds me of the helmet worn by Legolas... [In reply to] Can't Post

...in this painting by John Howe.

I'm not crazy about the idea of antlers on a dwarven helmet, but I agree that our trusted artists and designers could probably make it work. Antlers or not, I expect they will find a way to make Thorin stand out (His sky-blue hood is a start), especially at the Battle of Five Armies. Maybe he will find a nice, royal-looking dwarven helm in the dragon hoard!

A greenlight from the shadows shall spring!

Am I seeing things. . or Is Bofur sporting a combover? [In reply to] Can't Post

Wouldn't it be funny if Bofur has an inferiority complex about his balding noggin' and is always using some form of grease to get his combover back in place?
And then when ever the wind picks up, his hair flap goes bugger.

Not too rich yet? [In reply to] Can't Post

Wasn't Bilbo ok financially before The Hobbit, but really really well to do afterwards? Maybe that's why in this picture, they chose to play that up a bit with the scruffy look?

It's not just that [In reply to] Can't Post

He suddenly found himself hosting thirteen loud, hungry, and thirsty dwarves. He spends the entire evening running around fetching them this and that - getting all hot and flustered.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if he took off the waistcoat in an attempt to be more comfortable.

He was 'well to do' [In reply to] Can't Post

He didn't have a job, other than being a bit of a country squire and 'lord of the manor'- i really like that element of Bilbo, that he's a bit of a 'ralph' character from the Fast Show (only without the sexual attraction to his game keeper).

I've chosen to take this particular shot (although it's not a screenshot, it's a publicity shot so is all rather manufactured) as representing Bilbo late in the evening, having been forced to take off his jacket and waistcoat because of the heat of rushing around in a small house crammed with thirteen dwarves- he's a bit frazzled, but i hope that a much smarter and fastidious Bilbo is the one they establish at the start of the story. It'll be no journey at all if he's already a grounded, worldly, self aware everyman.

This is TORn, where everything from these films will be scrutinized to the smallest detail until the film comes out. Everywhere else I've read on the web, the emotion seems to be much more joyous and anxious rather than intrigued or unsure.

I liked the idea of Fili and Kili standing out from the rest in that way, but maybe they decided one of them (probably Kili) should have dark hair to help people tell them apart.

yeah that did sound kinda creepy didn't it [In reply to] Can't Post

Interpret it how you will... anyway it's better that Thorin is younger and stronger looking because he's pretty much going to be the dwarf version of Aragorn in these movies and we already have an main character who's an old man. I think that if Thorin was silver and old then it wouldn't be as appealing to most audiences... I mean that in the nicest way possible.

It's not unheard of for some people to never go gray. [In reply to] Can't Post

It tends to be a lot more common in natural blondes though.

Ultimately, it is clear that they are playing Thorin younger. But how much longer can't really be determined by that one picture, especially since his figure is in the background. Hopefully, we'll get more pictures soon of the dwarves so we can know a little more.

We have to consider scale [In reply to] Can't Post

The picture with Bilbos feet in it also has PJ in it, so when scaled down to hobbit size next to Gandalf they will only be half the size we see them here, ofc they will still be the same scale on Bilbo but compared to the rest of middle earth will be smaller.

I think Thorin looks fine, dwarves have a very long middle age, followed by rapid ageing, none of the members of the dwarf band are physically elderly or they wouldnt have gone on the journey. Middle aged is right for the eldest of them, ofc some people become bald and white haired long before they become physically old. and ignoring that, they got a handsome actor to play a main character in a book with no major eye candy potential, it would be foolish to wrinkle him up, and not something that will be anything more than a very minor niggle, to a few people, to change.

It is funny but I enjoy movies with young people in them. [In reply to] Can't Post

I am old. How does that work. Oh by the way I like good movies with all sorts of people in them, young, old, middle age, brown, pink and all the shades between, men, women, gay, straight. The simple thing is, if you make a great movie with great actors people will come to see it. I really think Thorin does not have to be played as a hunk. A while back a group of people were all upset because Bilbo was suppose to be middle aged. No one would go to see it. I say that is just fine. Let them go watch Twilight. And when they get over their agism they might learn what makes a movie truly great.

Sorry about the ramble. Mad
