Genuinely in tears from the excitement [In reply to] Can't Post

I just still can't grasp the fact this is finally happening. It's just been so long and that we can actually see before our eyes the progress that's being made- it's just incredible.

Rivendell is as gorgeous as ever. Totally sent shivers down my spine seeing it again. I am way way more excited though about seeing new parts of Rivendell. But as someone said.... what about Elrond? And while we're on that topic, Thranduil?????

I was not 'into' lotr before the trilogy was made and released, and so all the production videos I have seen of those films, I watched many years after they were actually shot. Therefore, for me, getting this video right at the beginning of everything is doubly exciting. This is history in the making and I'm here to witness it! Thank you PJ for being so incredibly awesome in not only making such fantastic films, but also taking the time and trouble to share the process with us.

WOW. [In reply to] Can't Post

Question....is it Martin Freeman or Ian Holm who says "in a hole in the ground..." ??? I am nerding out on this and watched it 5 times already. Seeing the dwarves sitting around the table and PJ suggesting one of them wipe his boot off on the table ??? Classic. Pete is gonna bring the folksy comedy between the dwarves and Bilbo ! I'm already salivating for the next update. BTW....did Pete put a few more pounds back on ? Good to see him happy and healthy again !

As far as PJ's excitement... [In reply to] Can't Post

... that really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Seems like a few people like to paint a picture of PJ being forced into directing - but he's been majorly excited about this project for a long time now - see this article from 2009:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/2756399/The-rise-and-rise-of-Peter-Jackson

In a few days, Jackson will hand over the first draft of part one of The Hobbit to Warner Brothers and New Line, the studio behind The Lord of the Rings whose founder famously declared Jackson "will never make any movie with New Line again while I'm still working for the company". (Robert Shaye resigned as chairman and CEO in February 2008 when Warner bought New Line.) With both instalments to be directed concurrently by Mexican Guillermo del Toro, who might appreciate the use of Jackson's easy chair, the Kiwi producer is starting to get a little envious of Del Toro.

"Writing the first part of The Hobbit has made me a little bit sorry that I'm not directing this one," admits Jackson.

"I hadn't felt that way until we started writing the scripts. Then, as we've been writing, I've been thinking it'll be a lot of fun to make these movies.

"All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds awake to find that it was vanity; But the dreamers of day are dangerous men. That they may act their dreams with open eyes to make it possible."
- T.E. Lawrence

First Post - amazing stuff from PJ + team! [In reply to] Can't Post

So this is my first post here, "Hello everyone". I've been a long time lurker ever since the Fellowship was released back in 2001. I'll admit I won't know the stories half as well as 99% of you guys, but I absolutely adore the movies. More importantly I am utterly inspired by Peter Jackson and his team and it is this element, perhaps even more so that the final movie, that I am looking forward to witnessing again.

This first blog video was nothing short of spectacular! I've never had goosebumps for 10 minutes 29 seconds before. This was a fabulous way to kick-off the start of The Hobbit for the fans as well as the hundreds of people working on the production. If these films were being made by anyone else other than the New Zealand crew, I don't think I would be anywhere near as excited as I am. It is wonderful to see them all back and healthy again.

Very much looking forward to the next update.

That was amazing. [In reply to] Can't Post

As Mooseboy said, there's so much great stuff in this video that it's difficult to know where to begin.

I think my favourite part was the glimpse of a creature which will be played by Andy Serkis – 'we wanted to create a very non-human shape'. It's hard to tell if the prosthetic creature in the first shot and the CGI Serkis creature in the next are the same one, but they look very similar to me. I think it's a goblin – perhaps even the Great Goblin?

I loved the Rivendell section. From the inclusion of our 'old friend' (?) Narsil, it's pretty clear that they're going to try to slide little Lord of the Rings references into the background – I'm sure some will find a way to grumble about this. I'm also excited by the prospect of new Rivendell areas 'Also in The Hobbit is going to be a lot of new bits of Rivendell that we haven't seen before – some really cool bits of Rivendell, actually, that we've— we'll keep as a little surprise for the time being.' I really hope we'll finally get to see the Hall of Fire, which is one of my favourite locations in The Lord of the Rings. Bilbo could easily visit it during his stay; or perhaps these new Rivendell areas will only be seen during the bookend scenes with Elijah Wood and Ian Holm? Maybe one will be a White Council meeting area?

The part where they blurred the wall covered in concept art was intriguing; I'm not sure if it was their intention to do a half-hearted job on the censorship, or if they were trying to tease us, but most of the designs are momentarily visible...

So much to contemplate... I expect we'll spend the next few weeks picking apart every frame of this video for clues once we've all calmed down.

OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCING THE START OF THE HOBBIT GEEKY OBVERSATIONS LIST [In reply to] Can't Post

With this thread, it begins. I'll do like I did for The Lord of the Rings where I'll be gathering all of the tidbits and observations we all see during the making of and actual viewing of the finished films.

Filming begins with the Maori Blessing and proper ceremony with the cast and crew.
Andy's the first one in the seat for makekup
The first shot looks like Bilbo finding the Ring in Gollum's Cave
gramma hasn't started breathing normally from overloaded, geeky excitement yet.

So I'll be going through this post and the others and will post what I have in a week or so... and will be updating the LotR list (see footer)

Here we go, guys. We've waited a long long long time for this. I'm still in shock. so great . Peter's just so great. he's brought us home.

*still crying*

The instant the music started, the tears did, too. I am amazed at how emotional my response to this was. My thoughts are all a-jumble, but I'd like to add a shout-out to Richard Taylor.

Holy crap [In reply to] Can't Post

Just how awesome was this?
It just made me realise how much I love the movie trilogy and this was such a nostalgia trip.

Loved seeing Sting without the elvish inscriptions , Rivendell and Narsil still being there Heart, a purple dwarf outfit looking awesome and not cheesy at all, all the familiar faces, and PJ walking around talking to the camera like he is doing the Forgotten Silver doco again, and the blurry concept art! Laugh

And if it was really Martin Freeman at the end, we are going to have a really great Bilbo Baggins indeed.
