Jackson could ignore his own change, but... [In reply to] Can't Post

If a filmmaker is going to make an alteration in an adaptation, I would hope that he would at least have the decency to remain internally consistant. Another poster stated that the change is only apparent in the extended edition of FotR. However, that is not true. It is apparent to anyone who is familiar enough with Tolkien to know that Frodo's companions were not yet grown at the time of Bilbo's eleventy-first birthday. Granted, that is not the average filmgoer, but that is beside the point.

Oh come on. Roll over just once to show us you can do it. [In reply to] Can't Post

I do not think that a young woman's secret crush on a person way above her station in life constitutes romance except in the classic literary sense.

Or... [In reply to] Can't Post

...it reeks of studio executives telling the filmmakers, write in a romantic sub-plot into this sausage-fest of a story to attract a larger audience, or no film for you! But then again, that's probably a lesser probability than Fran just wanting to write something in. Wink

Oh yes [In reply to] Can't Post

far more acceptable to have Lindir as the romance character than Legolas, but nevertheless, TH doesn't need a romance sub-plot.

..The land of long-forgotten name:
......no man may ever anchor near;
..No steering star his hope may aim,
......for nether Night its marches drear,
..And waters wide no sail may tame,

......the waves beat upon thy bar
..For ever echo endlessly,
......when longing leads thy thought afar

No I certainly hope you are wrong about this. [In reply to] Can't Post

It is one of a number of factors related to this that might lead me to an anuerysm. That said, if EVERYTHING else works out as it aught to. . . I am fine with Bret playing Lindir. I like Bret, I like Flight of The Concords, especially with their Simon & Garfunkel refferences, and nods to other cool artists, and I like Lindir. I always found his comment to Bilbo concerning the poem to be especially interesting and amusing. It would shock the peace from my parrish if he turns up on The White Council, but as a singing Elf in Rivendell, no problem. At least not in an otherwise perfect hobbit.

In Reply To
Nothing against the character "Lindir" or this actor BUT, this has red flags all over the place. First, he wasn't in the book, which leads me to the conclusion that he is the "ELF LORD from Rivendell who falls in love with ITARIL" from that list.

Look, the paper even adressed him as an Elf Lord in Rivendell. Red flags!

Apparently, as with Gothmog, [In reply to] Can't Post

with Ragagast, Drogo, Lindir, and many of the Dwarves, Peter and Co. are taking names created by Tolkien and fleshing them out into fully-realized characters.

I would rather be watching Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" and Ridley Scott's "Prometheus"...it's going to be a long few years.

I'm not familiar with BM or Flight of the Conchords, except from a recent Simpsons episode. Which one is Bret? (Ironically this clip may address why I just don't see what all the fuss is about.)
