Does a circle dance.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Round and round I goes!

Like weaver I missed out on the build up to the Trilogy so this is going to be a real treat!

Oh! Congratulations Mr. Jackson and co. :)

"...In the deep places he gives thought to music great and terrible; and the echo of that music runs through all the veins of the world in sorrow and in joy; for if joyful is the fountain that rises in the sun, its springs are in the wells of sorrow unfathomed at the foundations of the Earth. The Teleri learned much of Ulmo, and for this reason their music has both sadness and enchantment. Salmar came with him to Arda, he who made the horns of Ulmo that none may ever forget who once has heard them..."

so this is just great Smile

Excellent that we've got our Bilbo (yay Martin Freeman! Cool). Some interesting choices for the dwarves, though, I guess they'd need to be reasonably young and fit, to carry all the weight of the dwarf costumes.

Thoughts [In reply to] Can't Post

The only choices that really bug me are Aidan Turner, Rob Kazinsky, and Richard Armitage.

They just don't possess the dwarf look. I understand that Fili and Kiki are the youngest in the group, but these two are... well, pretty boys. As for Armitage, he just doesn't fit my image of the older, wizened leader of these dwarves. He's an extremely talented actor, but I don't want another instance where a role is cast too young.

I was kind of hoping they'd cast actors who had the "dwarf" look, so that they had less reliance in prosthetics.

Can you really picture Richard Armitage as Thorin? [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, i can't, sorry. He's just too young and doesn't have that dwarvish look. Sure, make-up can change you a lot but what about the voice? I picture Thorin having a deeper, commanding voice. I doubt Armitage has a deep, commanding voice, from the looks of his. When i picture Thorin, i see someone like Brian Blessed, who admittedly is a little too old now. Graham McTavish would have been a better Thorin imho.

When i look at Armitage i keep thinking of the women they glued beards on in LOTR. *lol* Crazy

But, Xo did a fabulous job of writing up some of the most detailed bios (if not *the* most detailed bios) you'll find out there at the moment.

Enjoy! LaughSmile

Man, that is just awesome! I love all of these unknowns, and Martin Freeman getting Bilbo definitely makes me happy.

Really sounds like they choose actors not for their names, but their auditions. Which makes me very, very happy.

Me too, Patty. [In reply to] Can't Post

He very much matches my vision of Bard.

Perhaps they want someone with a Romantic Hero look about him for the bulk of the journey, not just the small section where Bard's present.

#1 - Board is too slow :-) #2 - The Dwarves are going to be under makeup [In reply to] Can't Post

It doesn't really matter what these guys look like - they're going to be under makeup. If they did it to John Rhys-Davies they're going to do it to everybody. It's the performance under the makeup PJ is looking for and these people brought that character to their auditions it seems. And don't go by voices either - Liv Tyler is proof that the voice can be manipulated (she did it on her own I don't mean to imply they did it in post).

And yes I'm going to whine about the board being too slow. Laugh
