The name "Elven" suits you :) [In reply to] Can't Post

You have the gift of foresight. Well done, m'dear!

And I'm going to say that I foresee the films will be made in NZ. Between Peter's commitment to do these films now and the film companies counting on them being ultra successful... they'd be foolish NOT to film them in the lands where the first films were made. Everything's in place there. It's going to be fine.

*shakes head* You're awesome :D

you had such a great time! I know you were looking forward to it so much.

And Thank you for sharing this insight of his feeling about the films. I know he must have been upset with the fact things had to change, but that never meant he didn't believe in the project and want nothing but the best for it. He really is a quality, lovely man :)

Thank you :)

Re: 3D [In reply to] Can't Post

Along with potentially directing the second 3D Tintin film, Peter Jackson also wanted to make King Kong in 3D. PJ is well known to be in the pro-3D camp, I doubt he had to be forced into anything. Not to mention that Weta Digital have proven themselves in regards to making a phenomenal looking 3D film.

GDT [In reply to] Can't Post

GDT departed the directors chair, but isn't he still on as a co-screenwriter? I know that the scripts have already been finished but they'll certainly be some re-writes? Or does that power to change the script only lie with PJ, FW and PB now? I'm confused Cool

Not really in a position to know at this point [In reply to] Can't Post

He stated when he left that he was still helping write the scripts but the scripts are done - I would say it's a reasonable guess that PJ, Fran, and PB will do the changes from now on though GDT may be willing to help out if they give him a ring. He's got got other fish to fry though.

I believe that [In reply to] Can't Post

the producers and directors take control of the scripts though the studio(s own them. In this specific case the situation is complicated by the multiple roles people hold in the production. I think GdT would be consulted about major changes. It would only be polite and who knows when they may be working together again.

That thought doesn't comfort me [In reply to] Can't Post

Even if they do consult Guillermo about any changes they might want to make to the script, I find it hard to imagine him objecting to anything. He's said that he wouldn't mind even if Peter decided to redesign Smaug...

I'm not sure that Guillermo cares about seeing his work in The Hobbit as much as his fans do.

And despite some (I think minor)complaints I once heard voiced about a few designs in LotR, he has pretty good taste over all.

Honestly [In reply to] Can't Post

And I've said this before. If nothing else, I want GDT's Smaug to remain 100% intact. Hearing him gush about that particular design gave me chills.

I remember that, while GDT had final say, the design process for The Hobbit was collaborative between GDT and PJ. So I'm assuming/hoping that PJ is happy with the final designs, and that little changes will be made. I'd like to be able to see GDT's influence in the film. In terms of creature design, GDT is one of the best in the business (if not THE best).

GdT's Smaug [In reply to] Can't Post

I certainly hope Jackson doesn't change it. And I don't think he will... he seemed to like GdT's style enough to select him as the director for The Hobbit, so the odds are if GdT really loves the design, Jackson should too (especially since he, John Howe and Alan Lee presumably had some input on it).

The most important aspect of Smaug's design is the 'thing' Guillermo did with it to make him different from every other dragon on film. That 'thing' absolutely must remain intact, whatever it might be. If it's as good as Guillermo thinks it is, there's no way Peter would mess with it... I hope.

I definitely consider GdT to be the foremost creature designer in the business.
