Is this progress? Edited by Altaira to add: HOBBIT GETS GREENLIGHT! --> WOOT! Can't Post

These two articles have just appeared, suggesting that the light is almost green....

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/...hobbit-is-finalized/

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/...abor-resolution.html

Not being American, I can't judge how reliable they might be.....

ETA
This one claims the film HAS the greenlight, and there are lots of similar ones.... but are they jumping the gun???

and another

Wake me up when it's real!!!! Crazy

Sounds legitimate to me [In reply to] Can't Post

But of course it wouldn't be the first time that a piece of 'confirmed' news turned out to be rubbish.

You beat me to it! [In reply to] Can't Post

I have read the same thing, if this is true, this post needs a more spectacular headline, such as:
'The Hobbit' Has It's >> GREENLIGHT!! <<
or something like that, I suppose...Sly
So I wonder, IS THIS IT??? Or are we too premature with our excitement and enthusiasm?

I don't know... it feels kind of 'wrong' [In reply to] Can't Post

I was expecting a pre-announcement that would tell us the date of the actual announcement, and then we'd have a dramatic build-up/countdown. This just seems completely out of the blue, and right on the heels of them telling us they'd make a decision 'within a week or two'. Kind of... weirdly disappointing?

... tell me how to change the headline! After all this time I don't think I'll believe it until the posters go up in the cinema.... Wink

well... [In reply to] Can't Post

That is just Greenlight happens...
As PJ just told a few days ago... There is not greenlight until it does.
So... the building up its NOT part of it.

Let us hope its true

that's all I keep telling myself. My head feels funny and I'm sick to my stomach. I don't know how much longer I can handle waiting after reading that...

Close the door, put out the light.
You know they won't be home tonight.
The snow falls hard and don't you know?
The winds of Thor are blowing cold.
They're wearing steel that's bright and true
They carry news that must get through.

They choose the path where no-one goes.

They hold no quarter.

Well, this could really be true, because... [In reply to] Can't Post

An audio from 'The Morning Report' from 'Radio New Zealand' said that The Hobbit was only days away from getting a greenlight, and that was on 4 October 2010. It's now 15 October, that's 11 days later, which is more than only a few days...

LA Times and Hollywood.com are fairly reliable [In reply to] Can't Post

Both have good contacts within the industry, so they usually have credible stories. Variety is another good source, so if they announce, you can be sure that the light has indeed turned green!

It's bitter-sweet, I guess [In reply to] Can't Post

I guess once the euphoria wears off, we can all start depressing ourselves over the compromises they will have to make to the production due to all the delays... :)

I'll believe it when we see an official press release... [In reply to] Can't Post

The press has just been SO accurate when dealing with the production so far.

To the average entertainment journalist, random rumor = indisputable truth.

Samuel L. Jackson for Bilbo, Woody Allen for Thorin, Lewis Black for Bard and Gilbert Gottfried for Smaug!

I've just been bawling over the ROTK EE appendices [In reply to] Can't Post

Specifically, "Cameras in Middle-earth" and all the farewells, and Viggo's haka. There's PJ saying he'd never film three movies together again, and John Rhys Davies saying he'll never ever be a dwarf again - and then I come online and there's finally some good news. Weird. But exciting. Now I'm looking forward to watching the inside story of all of this on the Hobbit DVD in a couple of years' time!

Let's hope it's true, and that they sort out the actors' dispute, and get shooting.

Xoanon is confirming this as we speak. [In reply to] Can't Post

So as not to hijack doormouse's subject line any more often that needed, I just wanted to confirm that Xo is confirming this now. As soon as he get's confirmation, he'll update the Home page and I'll update doormouse' subject line once and for all.

However, the sources reporting this are some heavy hitters with very good sources, so I think we can all be 99.9999% confident that this is finally, blessedly true!! Laugh
