**DOES DANCE OF JOY** [In reply to] Can't Post

I just shouted the news from my front porch! Got a few dog responses, one honk from a passerby neighbor who most likely thought I was having some sort of fit by the double-take, Tongue Crazy, and one hubby thinking something awful had happened--who quickly went hiding in the house red-faced when I started my dance of JOY! Laugh

Trying to wake my self up right now. Not working...

Well, as much as I'm looking forward to the movie, I'm really looking forward to listening to Howard Shore's soundtrack for this!!!

About freakin' time [In reply to] Can't Post

But the studios' comments lead me to believe that they were never 100% on board with GDT directing, which bothers me a little bit.

But hey. I'm not going to let it ruin the moment. Just glad this project is finally moving forward.

3D :/ [In reply to] Can't Post

Very nice article but I'm still disappointed if they'll really go ahead with the 3D plans. Unless it's some new cutting-edge stuff and completely different & better compared to what we now get. Which, considering the team involved, wouldn't be that surprising! :)

"We shall be bruised and battered to pieces, and drowned too, for certain!" they muttered. "We thought you had got some sensible notion, when you managed to get hold of the keys. This is a mad idea!"

If The Hobbit is filmed in 3D like Avatar was, I have absolutely no problem with it. Avatar's 3D was great. It's when movies are shot in 2D and then converted in post-production that 3D fails horribly.

Plus, as I've said before, it's really no big deal either way. The Hobbit will still be released in standard format. Nobody's being forced to watch it in 3D.

Don't worry about 3D [In reply to] Can't Post

  • You can be sure it will be screened in both 2D and 3D. Smile
  • It will be shot in 3D, not converted to 3D. Big difference. Movies that are shot in 3D look waaaaay better than ones that are converted to 3D in post.
I think I will see the movies first in 2D and then see the 3D versions. Cool

Now that the greenlight has finally been given..... [In reply to] Can't Post

...Contracts will be winging their way to agents to be signed and over the next few weeks were going to start hearing all the names of the cast.

Exciting times.

I remember reading TORN way back in the LOTR pre-production days and loved seeing all the stories pop up about who was cast as who. Its going to be so much fun to go through all this again over a decade later.

Silverlode

"Of all faces those of our familiares are the ones both most difficult to play fantastic tricks with, and most difficult really to see with fresh attention. They have become like the things which once attracted us by their glitter, or their colour, or their shape, and we laid hands on them, and then locked them in our hoard, acquired them, and acquiring ceased to look at them.
Creative fantasy, because it is mainly trying to do something else [make something new], may open your hoard and let all the locked things fly away like cage-birds. The gems all turn into flowers or flames, and you will be warned that all you had (or knew) was dangerous and potent, not really effectively chained, free and wild; no more yours than they were you."

The Hollywood Reporter chimes in [In reply to] Can't Post

It's official: 'Hobbit' greenlighted
The announcement, made jointly by New Line president and COO Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros. president and COO Alan Horn, and MGM co-CEO Steve Cooper, says the "the two films based on 'The Hobbit' are now greenlit and will begin principal photography in February 2011, under the direction of Peter Jackson."
The announcement does not mean, however, that the labor issue acting as a hurdle for the production has been resolved. And it's the resolution of that dispute which will determine where the movie will shoot.
The dispute lies between Jackson and an array of unions, including New Zealand Actors’ Equity and SAG. A “do not work” order is in place on the production, which has refused to recognize union jurisdiction for local actors. Discussions in New Zealand are being facilitated by that country’s government, with little progress reported to date. SAG would not comment on whether it is involved in negotiations.
If the movie does not shoot in New Zealand, the country where Jackson made his "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, the filmmaker said Warners are looking at five different locales around the world to host the project.

...and it hasn't even really begun!

And after all this time, it's so great that we've arrived at the best possible outcome (imho) of PJ directing. As great as GDT version/vision would have been, I'm really looking forward to the complete conceptual continuity of my 18 hour Hobbit/LotR Extended Edition Holographic Purple-Ray Disc marathon in 2015.

And you're all invited!!! :-D!!

Yes, I know I can still see it in 2D [In reply to] Can't Post

However, it being either filmed in 3D or converted to it will still affect the production in many ways - time, money and other resources will be concentrated on something that many fans consider an unnecessary gimmick. It can of course be that PJ will be the first director to get it "right" and use the technology to support the story (versus it being the main attraction/focus point). I certainly hope so!

"We shall be bruised and battered to pieces, and drowned too, for certain!" they muttered. "We thought you had got some sensible notion, when you managed to get hold of the keys. This is a mad idea!"
