If only cats could talk, and tell you about all that he experienced...but he knows he's safe with you now. Smile

Wow [In reply to] Can't Post

that sure sounds impressive, that new fault line, great to see, but also a bit scary, knowing the earth can do that.
Glad to hear you and your family are alright.

You're all okay! [In reply to] Can't Post

Shattered ceramics and glassware - but no shattered lives. Do give Midgey and the cats extra ear-scritchies from us all, it's been quite a traumatic time for everyone!

I love that, about the little boy in his Batman suit. He knows how to take charge of the situation! Laugh What a great kid - and it sounds like you do have some great neighbors, as well.

(Part of me wonders how that awful woman with the awful dog fared...)

Has anyone heard from Estelwyn ? [In reply to] Can't Post

She is an old ( not in age ) TORnsib who I know used to live in Nelson, NZ but moved to another city a few years back. Has anyone heard form her at all ? Also, did not Leggylass live out there as well?

There's something of everything here, The Shire and the Golden Wood and Gondor and kings' houses and inns and meadows and mountains all mixed.

....and there are Elves when you want them.

My goodness! [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm so glad you and the family and our other 'sibs and their pets are all right -- and fingers crossed for those who haven't reported in yet. I live in Texas, so am accustomed to tornado warnings and the like, but an earthquake -- oh my *shudders in more ways than one*

Take care!

Do we walk in legends or on the green earth in the daylight?

A man may do both. For not we but those who come after will make the legends of our time. The green earth, say you? That is a mighty matter of legend, though you tread it under the light of day!

And I'm so sorry about your mother's things being broken. Hopefully the cracks in your house aren't too structural and can be repaired . . . Glad everyone is alive and well, though--and hoping you can all get water easily!

Because of the fire [In reply to] Can't Post

in the central city, there was talk of it. It was only in one building though. Actually, it was in a really revolting strip club which I have always hated. No comment...

We are still awake (3.00am) because the aftershocks are constant and it is impossible to relax. Soon I will have been awake for 24 hours. Crazy
I look stunning in my three jerseys, woolly hat and blankies, clutching a hot water bottle.

We are lucky here, we have both water and power now [In reply to] Can't Post

I've been listening to the radio and there are some of people sleeping in cars, still without power and water.
It is cold tonight, and there are gale-force winds predicted for tomorrow.

We are being asked to conserve water, so no showers etc.
It will be a relief when it is daylight again - night time is not much fun.

She may still be without power [In reply to] Can't Post

A lot of areas are.
Hope you are okay, Nimloth.

The fire was only in an isolated area, but I think there was worry because the water pressure is low.

Her profile says Aotearoa. [In reply to] Can't Post

This seems to be near Wellington, and a long ways from Christchurch.
Though she hasn't posted for (almost exactly) two years, she was viewing the forums earlier this week.

As for Leggylass, who's not been seen here for three years, I had to turn to her profile on the old forums to learn that she lives (lived?) in Wellington.

We had a 6.8 a few years back [In reply to] Can't Post

I was 50 miles from the epicenter but still got a pretty exciting ride for a couple minutes. I was in the bathtub - my dog, who hates baths, almost got in with me!

I hate earthquakes! Glad to hear of the minimal loss of human life! [In reply to] Can't Post

I do so hate earthquakes! I grew up in Southern California and lived there until I was 24 so I have experienced a number of them and I can understand how jittery everyone must be during these aftershocks. Unfortunately, from what I read in the news now it seems that NZ isn't going to escape earthquakes any time soon being at the junction of 2 tectonic plates (i believe that's what it said). I moved to Arizona where earthquakes are more rare. I hope everyone is able to to return to normal as soon as possible and to rebuild their homes and businesses to be even more safe during any future quakes.

In case no one remembers me, I'm a very rare commenter here but i check in periodically to catch up on the latest news - which I appreciate very much. Oh, and I was on the December 2004 Red Carpet Tour. Vacation of a lifetime!
