The studios don't seem to hurry... [In reply to] Can't Post

Actually they are certain TH is gonna be a massive hit and so they put forth the priorities of their already programmed films and on a later date they will fill the gap in their release schedule...Pure business Mad
Although, PJ , GDT and rest of the team seem determined to release the 1st film in late 2011 and the 2nd a year after, because naturally they will have programmed to move on to other projects after their Hobbit phase is over.

So 2012, Hobbit Year (and probably 2013) [In reply to] Can't Post

That's fine, then, if Mrs. Thompson says that takes that amount of time. As a moviegoer, I'm always selfish and I prefer tha filmmaker to expand and produce the movies. I'm also interested in Del Toro's post-Hobbit project...His Frankeinstein coudl be a masterpiece. A truly one. But we have to wait, at least, 5 or 6 years for that.

My guess ... [In reply to] Can't Post

... is that the studio really doesn't know one way or the other for sure. They and we are all hanging on the script-submission, budgeting, and greenlighting process. I don't think they're deliberately tantalizing us.

I think three years is too short for two long films. People may not realize what an astounding feat it was for Peter Jackson and his team to put out three very long films over a two year span, from December 2001 to December 2003. Few directors could do such a thing, especially with the amount of CGI involved.

I remember the Unexpected Party Chat... [In reply to] Can't Post

Quote
We will be ten years after the first LoTR. ¿How the people will react?

where someone asked if it was intentional to release the first Hobbit Film on the 10 year anniversary of FOTR, and where PJ answered:

No this is the first time I have actually thought about it ... that is nice I will claim credit for the idea from this day forward

So when they're going to release the first Hobbit Film in 2012, it means he can cancel this idea as well? 2012 is 11 years after FOTR.....

Thinking about that......ten years after [In reply to] Can't Post

What really excites me and confuses me, rereading the chat, is the PG13 rating. I always thought The Hobbit as a book for children that could be subtle and sophisticated for teens and adults.

The PG13 rating mean that there is a continuation from the book , I can imagine the creepy storytelling of the second, close to Jackson style, but the gloomy and darky first part as directed by Del Toro is hard to imagine right now....I'm with the source on mind.

This news doesn't bother me ... [In reply to] Can't Post

I have suspected the time line tight for 2011 and 2012 - I thought we would be looking at a 2013 and 2014 actually (yeah, shoot me Wink)... saying in posts (in 2008) that both would be out and seen by 2015 - GdT is in NZ until 2015 (as far as I remember reading) so I think closer to that time the Hobbits will be made and screened.

I think the next step is second script and budget - then green light - lots of writing and contracts to be done in between.
And I still think they are waiting on technology to advance to a stage where they are 10 years ahead of the mainstream ... I think they have something up their sleeves.

GdT did mention how many days filming was approximated at - and it was steep - I think as substantial as LOTR ... I cannot find the article though - someone might have it (Earl/Kangi Sa) but I think its was over 300 days - a year at least - *Elven throws papers around* ... *where is that article?* OK, its only January, just ... so that there's still room, especially with so much pre-production already in the works ... but there is no greenlight as yet - scouting is happening - the new stage set is being built ... there's lots of positive movement in the right direction, but Im wondering what New Line are hesitant about. From the article I get a sense of hesitancy ...

I feel like Im stuck in a revolving door on all this news of whats legitimate and whats not ...

I think New Line will be looking to trump any releases that pose a threat - Hoping Mr Disc excells at chess Wink

Cheers

So much could change in an instant [In reply to] Can't Post

and the flash of a green light. It's completely understandable that Peter, GdT and all can't give out any more information than they have. I don't think we'd have heard as much already if Peter hadn't been out on the Lovely Bones circuit. You are the voice of reason and experience in this, and I hear ya... but I have trouble giving up on the hope for things to fall into place, as they usually seem to do for Peter :)

For me, 3D is more of a distraction than an improvement. Big Screen is good enough!! :D
