Wow [In reply to] Can't Post

I had never considered Shalhoub. But he does have an Ian Holm Bilbo-esque look to him.

Throw a wig on him and dye the eyebrows and yeah, I could definitely see it.

Good call.

Sorry for the double post [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm gonna go ahead and throw Mickey Rourke into the mix for Beorn. Knowing him as a method actor he'd probably go live with bears for two months Laugh.

I'm not worried.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, I have supreme confidence that whoever they cast for whatever role will be brilliant. Assuming the same folks who were involved with casting the LOTR films are involved in The Hobbit as well, anyway. I wasn't so sure about some of their choices when I first heard about the trilogy so many years ago, but ended up being not one bit disappointed in any of the actors for those films, and quite a few of them just blew me away. So I expect I'll be happy with whoever they go with this time around, even if they're not my personal first choice.

Shaloub...Roth...Oldman... [In reply to] Can't Post

all great actors....but I don't see the Bagginses in them...

Oldman is a brilliant actor...
but for Bilbo...I say no to all three...there's somebody out there yet, be they unapproached, or on standby...who just IS Bilbo...
this guy has to embody him in every way.

I have my top two...but the likelihood of either one of them being cast has slid further & further down the hill...
so I'm just gonna be patient & trust them to cast the perfect Bilbo...

Andy Dwarfs most in talent... [In reply to] Can't Post

he would be such an amazing Smaug...

his vocal talent alone...
producing that perfect, iconic voice for Gollum...not to mention his physical body and emotions...

Andy would be a brilliant Smaug...listen to him in The Screwtape Letters...wow...
can't say it enough, really...he should play both characters in The Hobbit...

GDT, PJ...tell me you wouldn't agree...

no... [In reply to] Can't Post

I've seen Tony Shaloub in Monk, actually...I wouldn't have responded with such certainty of opinion if I hadn't..
and if I hadn't, I would have looked up an episode to watch to determine for myself whether he struck me as who I'd LONG envisioned Bilbo Baggins to be...

and...sorry if my opinion differs from yours...but that's the beauty of individual perception...
everyone sees something different and is ultimately entitled to their own opinion...
apparently everyone who's anyone agrees he should be cast...?
the masses have spoken...?
he doesn't absolutely say Bilbo Baggins to me...at all...that's just me...
what can I say? agree to disagree...
Peace...

I see, strongly, either Martin Freeman or Colin Firth as Bilbo...leaning more toward Colin Firth these days...
but I have a sneaky suspicion someone relatively unknown has been cast...and I'm more than ok with that...

Is it too late to change my vote [In reply to] Can't Post

for Bard from Thomas Kretschmann to Til Schweiger?

Seen most recently in Inglourious Basterds as Sgt. Stiglitz, some of you may remember Schweiger as Cynric, son of Stellan Skarsgard's character Cerdic, in King Arthur.

Although... King Arthur does bring to mind another actor who could play Bard: Mads Mikkelsen. He played Tristam in King Arthur but is probably better known as Le Chiffre in Casino Royal (2006). And for die hard Viggo fans, Mads is Danish as well.

Dang, come to think of it, they are all good choices... hmmm ok if it were up to me, Til Schweiger would get my vote.

Bard: Liam Neeson

Beorn: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Jason Statham

Eh [In reply to] Can't Post

I always envisioned Bard as a man in his late 30s/early 40's. While Neeson turns everything he touches into gold, I think he might be too old for the part.

A resounding "NO" to Dwayne Johnson being involved in this production in any way, shape, or form. Let him stick to terrible kid flicks.

I have to agree...sorry ... [In reply to] Can't Post

Bard...Liam Neeson...meh...he's in almost everything...Star Wars, Narnia, Batman...lets give an up & comer a go...

The Rock would be the stone that dragged The Hobbit right down to the bottom...

Mark Williams...a bit too fuddy duddy...like the opposite of James McAvcoy....
not fond of the idea of seeing any Harry Potter-affiliated actors in The Hobbit...
Peace.

Johnny Vegas for Bombur! [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, he's a comedian type, but did anyone see him in "The Libertine"? The way he handled the old way of speaking was really natural. And I just think he looks perfect for Bombur, with a beard of course.

Brad Pitt's Mystery Beard [In reply to] Can't Post

Brad Pitt has been sporting a strange beard lately, People Magazine suggested he remove it. I believe it likely being grown for a role, but he hasn't announced what role it is for. His IMDB schedule looks like there may be a big open area in the middle of 2010.

Just saying is all.
