I'll certainly open them - way too curious to ignore them For me it was interesting to follow this discussion, too. Maybe I should get a photobucket account and try if I can insert pictures from there! *sigh* Oh well, we will work that out in the end, I am sure. If I find out something, I'll let you know.

until then, the photo of me in the pink bikini will just have to wait. In the meantime, here's something a bit more pleasing to the eye.

Really, I doubt I will be able to see any pink bathing suit or bikini any time soon without fond memories Is that the puppy you got some months ago? He's a cutie - want to cuddle him!

I just edited your post to put your picture in the message body using the Inline option. It took about 5 seconds. So we know that's easy enough to do, anyway. Editing help is always yours for the asking.

I am so jealous that you can do that. It's great to know it was so simple - I may take you up on that offer. I'll have a fiddle around tomorrow with my photos and PM you to talk about editing the post if you don't mind. Cheers.

That's Midgey, although he would be very cross with me if he knew I had posted such a babyish photo of him. He is nearly 10 months old now and considers himself very grownup.

It's really too bad it should be so easy on one computer and so hard on another. If anyone with a Mac knows or figures out how to put pictures in posts, please let us know. We'd love to have the procedure on record somewhere so we can help when the question comes up in future.

maybe it would be possible to put a hint into the TORn 101 picture posting instructions to tell people that these don't work on a Mac? Obviously I am not the only one who has been despairing about the attempt to follow the instructions. It might spare others the feeling to be completely stupid

I apologise, Magpie - didn't mean to ignore you, only got sidetracked and then forgot about your question. In fact, at the moment I am here with Firefox - I *do* have that browser, only I use it more for tests and in emergencies - still prefer Safari. The 'write post' window in Firefox does look different from Safari - just made screenshots. Let me try to post them. Hm, didn't get them into the body of the post itself, at least not from my desktop, but at least the attachments worked ...

One really has to wonder if these differences in the same browser on PC or Mac are truly necessary, or if that's only another way to annoy users Sadly, I don't have any deeper knowledge about the browsers than what I need for everyday use, and next to no knowledge about working with pictures at all, so I can't say any more than you do. But I just klicked on the picture with the mountain in the toolbar and the window attached below popped up. Can you tell me if that's what you normally would get when posting pictures? If it's the same and there would be any chance to get pictures posted properly from there, I might think about getting an account at photobucket or somewhere similar, even if I'd probably use it only very seldom. At least to me it looks as if posting pictures in the body of the post might work better when they are already uploaded somewhere on the net - posting them from my laptop directly seems impossible, save as attachment. At least that's my impression. Anyway, thank you many times over for trying to help!

You have to upload the picture to TORn before you click on the mountain

...only then will it give you the "Inline" option in addition to entering a link from a picture on the web. See below. If you click on the "Inline" option, it will let you select the picture you've uploaded. If you don't get that "Inline" option, you're out of luck. In the end, it may just be easier to link to pics on the web. Every website and platform has to decide which browsers to support. Some support many, but that costs a lot of money and time for testing, etc. The creators of Gossamer Forum made the decsion to optimize this application for IE and Firefox, being the most popular browsers at the time. There's nothing that can be done about that except to 1) download and use IE or Firefox, or 2) work around the limitations of the browser you wish to use.

you have to have the option to choose to make it an "Inline" attachment. The pic below illustrates the "Inline" box. If you select it before you click on "Upload Attachement," you'll be able to select to imbed it in your post after you click on the mountain. Agan, no "Inline" box, no can do. (Disclaimer: yes, yes, I know these pics are larger than the guidelines permit, but I wanted people to be able to actually *see* and be able to read what was on my screen. So I'm claiming special dispensation just this once ).

I am already using Firefox, but there seems to be a difference between Firefox for Windows and Firefox for Mac Really, I *do* understand that not every website can be optimised for every browser, but sometimes it's making things rather difficult. Sorry for being so stupid, but how do I upload pictures to TORn if I get only the option to either use the attachment function or to click on the mountain? That's what I don't understand Linking to pics on the web isn't the problem, linking at least I do manage, but what if I want to post one of my own pictures that's on my laptop? Do I need to upload it somewhere else first? And the big question for me is, would it work at all if I posted them to a website like photobucket and then tried to embed it here, considering my recalcitrant browser?

Yes, that should work. Sites like photobucket (I use villagephotos) will give you a url address that you can paste in that box after you click on the mountain. Your problem isn't that you can't upload pics, and apologies if I went off on a tanget, your problem is that once they're uploaded, you can't *imbed* them in your post. Try putting a pic on a third party hosting site like photobucket, then pasting the address for the pic they give you into that box the mountain gives you. That should work.

thanks to Altaira and Magpie, I finally figured it out! *happy dance* Of course I went off at once to write it down before I forget again. Here's how my successful attempt worked: Posting pictures in the body of the post with a Mac seems to be impossible with Safari, but can be done with Firefox. For pictures on your own Mac: 1) make sure you are working in advanced editor 2) open a window to post – either a new thread or an answer to another post 3) click on ‚browse’ on the right side of 'attachment' in the toolbar below the post window 4) select the picture on your Mac and open it 5) mark ‚inline’ and click ‚upload attachment’ 6) then the path to the picture on your Mac should show up in the line besides ‚attachment’ 7) now click on the picture with the mountain in the toolbar above the post window 8) when the image posting window pops up, mark ‚inline image’ 9) mark the image that’s now offered 10) hit ‚submit’ For pictures somewhere on the net: 1) make sure you are working in advanced editor 2) open a window to post – either a new thread or an answer to another post 3) now click on the picture with the mountain in the toolbar above the post window 4) insert the URL for the picture – to copy and paste if from another website is the easiest way 5) hit ‚submit’
