There will be seperate activities. [In reply to] Can't Post

Sorry you can't make it to the symphony/movie. But I know there are plans for a lunch or dinner with everyone at some point during the weekend. Beyond that, things still seem to be in the planning stages. As soon as there is some definite news, i'm sure it will be posted here on TORn!

As for an attendees list, I don't think there is one yet, but one of the posts about this (see the link above in my first post) had replies from a lot of the folks who are planning to go.

Tentative list of mooters -- we're up to 35 (with guests), by my count! [In reply to] Can't Post

OK, so I went through all the various threads and tried to compile a list of who's going to the concert and/or other moot activities.

If I've got any wrong information or assumptions here, please reply or PM me.

As far as I can tell, everyone who's going to the concert is going on Saturday. A few people won't be at the concert, but want to come to other TORn activities.

In some cases, I'm not sure how many guests people are bringing as people wrote things like, "I'll be there -- I got my tickets!" So in those cases I assumed it's "+1", and I'm also assuming that people will probably be bringing their +1's to other TORn events too. Is this a good assumption, or will TORnsibs be mooting and sending their SO's off to do something less geeky? Tongue

Here's the list so far (definitely attending concert and/or moot), with seat numbers if people had posted them (and question marks for any I was unsure of):

a.s.
Aerin (Orch4, SS 411)
AlatarielNoldo +1?
Altaira +1
CAHobbit (2nd Mezzanine, row D, seat 507)
Deej
Donry?
Elizabeth +1
Entmaiden +1 (1st mezzanine, Row D, seats 505-506)
Farawyn
frodomyhero ("orchestra in the center")
Glaurung63 +1
Greendragon (1st mezzanine, row F 306)
L. Ron Halfelven (1st mezzanine, row F 307)
LaerasŽa (ORCH3 FF 301)
Laitholiel_the_SeaElf +1?
Magpie +1 (ORCH5 P 501 - 502)
MrCere
Nerdanel
Peregrin Took
Scout
Silneldor +2 (ORCH5, row GG, seats 505-507)
Smeagirl/Girllum +1 (Orch5 Row FF seats 511-512)
Sunflower
_V_

Also the following people indicated that they hope to go or might go:

Ainu Laire
Arwen's daughter
grammaboodawg
hobbithearted (with "an upstate NY crew"?)
JRandomRohirrim
one_more_reason

There were a few posts referencing lurkers or past TORnsibs who will be in town, "about 20" per Farawyn. Who are these people, and why aren't they participating in these threads? Crazy Tongue Should we assume that our moot will have unexpected guests?

My polls regarding hotels and events didn't get as many replies as I'd hoped, but I think it's mostly because things are still so up in the air at this point. But hopefully knowing how many people we've got will help with the planning.

Please reply or PM me if the above has any errors or omissions. Thanks.

Update on my info in regards to a moot [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm definitely going and I'll have 5 other people with me, though I'm not sure if they will all attend a moot with me.
My seats are 2nd Mezz, Row A, seats 304-305 (the rest of my party is in row D behind me).

But in Lindon Gil-Galad still maintained his

*twitch* Okay... I wanna go to!!! But... [In reply to] Can't Post

Okay. I've been planning to go to NZ this coming Thanksgiving, so I really didn't think I could do that AND NYC; but guys, this is just too much to miss!

My problem is that my second job (my LotR $) schedules me to work one of the weekends in October, and they haven't posted which weekend it is. I've emailed to ask, but I'll have to wait until Monday for a reply and then they still may not know.

My question is... are the tickets transferrable? If I go ahead and get a ticket and find I can't *sniffle* go, can I pass it on to another sibbie if they want it?

Lets see what happens :)

OMG! I wouldn't even let myself think about going before... now I'm slavering!

From the posts, it looks like most everyone's going to the Saturday show, which is what I'll shoot for. I can't tell if there are any tickets still available since my dialup won't do adobe to see the seating.

Can anyone slip in and tell me if there are seats left where the crowd is gathering?

Sorry for the high-maintenance post, but now that the bug has bit---I'm OCD about this!

*still twitching*

Yes, tickets are still available! [In reply to] Can't Post

I just picked up two (for myself and Geeky Son): 1st mezzanine, row H, 312&313. We'll plan to head into NYC on the train that morning.

The tickets do have one's name on them, but that's only for the "purchased by" section, so you probably would not have any trouble transferring yours...except, of course, for the fact that it means that you would not be there! Frown

It's the standard Ticketmaster seat selection, so you don't have much choice - it chooses for you. Tongue

Hopefully there will be good news come Monday...(*crosses fingers and toes!*)

Hi there! [In reply to] Can't Post

Worcester, eh? Can you get a train or bus down to New London (Conn.)?

My son and I plan to leave on one of the morning trains (depending on schedules) from there that Saturday. Come to think of it, if the Boston-area 'sibs decide to take a train, then we could join up with them along the route...and in that case, you could get the train or bus to Boston (but that does add extra hours to your route!).

Let's see what the plans are, as the time draws near. I think we'll be able to manage some sort of group travel!

Oh, I wish!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

It's tests for education grad students to certify them for teaching... between 400 & 600 people hoping to pass so they can get a job teaching (given 4 times a year). I've tried to train my co-worker in case I can't make it someday, but she's not very receptive. Plus, the money I make would just about pay for the ticket and the room.

Let's just hope and pray that this one weekend is NOT the test day! :D

I'm thinking no. There is a group of folks who initially met through TORn who are mooting for the show, too. I assume some of those (like me) will also see the gang here, but maybe only at the show itself. Just not sure (especially since I fly in on Saturday)!

So, I'd really like to buy my plane ticket now [In reply to] Can't Post

since they're so cheap for now. Are there airport issues I need to be concerned with, or is the main airport closest to mid-town the way to go. I'm showing my ignorance of NY here since I have no idea what the airport location(s) would be. It looks like LaGuardia Airport is the one for domestic flights closer to town.

I'm planning on coming in late in the day on Friday and leaving on Sunday by 2 at the latest. Two nights would be fine if the hotel price is reasonable. I'm planning on getting my flight VERY soon since the prices are SO low... which would off-set the cost of the room.

I'll give you what I know [In reply to] Can't Post

but hopefully the native NY'ers will chime in.

I've flown to New York several times, and none of the airports are "close". And for someone who has never been there before, I highly recommend a taxi to your hotel, which will probably cost about $35 each way, but the cost can be shared.

The three main airports are LaGuardia, Newark and JFK. I would say pick the one that gives you the best schedule and air fare - no one is appreciably better than the other. They're all kind of yucky. I have friends who will NEVER fly to Newark, for example, and others who will NEVER fly anywhere but Newark. It all depends on personal experience. I've probably flown to LaGuardia more than the others.

I do know we had talked about setting up a buddy system so that experienced travelers can pair up with those less experienced, and that's still the plan. They'll meet each other at the airport and share the taxis to the hotel. We can't plan that now because so few have made their actual travel plans, but we'll get that organized. We might also have some "greeter" volunteers who might hang out at the airports for part of the arrival day to make sure everyone has a buddy. All up in the air at this poinbt, but be assured we won't leave anyone without some support - even if it's just a cell phone number to call!

I would say go ahead and get your ticket now if prices are good. We'll collect the arrival information at some point and match everyone up with their support network.

Each cloak was fastened about the neck with a brooch like a green leaf veined with silver.
`Are these magic cloaks?' asked Pippin, looking at them with wonder.
`I do not know what you mean by that,' answered the leader of the Elves.

Fersher, Thanks entmaiden :D [In reply to] Can't Post

I think I'll watch over the next few days and then get a ticket to LaGuardia. You KNOW I have no problem hanging out at airports, so waiting for fellow travelers and sharing rides sounds great to me! If anything, I'd rather get there early and do the waiting as I listen to books on my ipod.

I saw the airport site said it would be about $35 ride to town. After what some of us experienced in California, that didn't seem too unreasonable to me... but sharing the cost is very welcome :)

I'm shooting for getting there on Friday afternoon and leaving Sunday noon/afternoon.

It really is very early for so much of the planning, but this flight stuff is pretty timely. I'm even looking at flights for next March/April ;)

I'm getting pretty geeked already :D *twitch*
