After that stuff about Pete, Fran, and Phillipa writing their version, and Guillermo writing his, I was worried, but now this is much better. Smile

That's the best news I've heard so far... [In reply to] Can't Post

At least if Peter and Fran are involved in the process, they and GDT will get a feel for what each one's vision for the movie is and it will become apparent rather quickly whether they're on the same page. If the writing process goes smoothly, then I'll be able to put aside whatever reservations I may still have of GDT directing this thing and be able to enjoy the subsequent months of spy reports and feedback from the trio.

You know I'm pro-Doug for Thranduil [In reply to] Can't Post

But we were talking the other day about the possibility of Sam Neill doing it. I would like that as well!

Also, the Laketowners are rleated to the people of Rohan, aren;t they, so I can;t wait to hear Shore's Laketown theme!

You are so right! This was mentioned as well in one of Earl's music threads several months ago. Esgaroth's theme must resemble or at least hint at Rohan's.

Will we see the Company's Theme hinting at the Fellowship's? Ah! So many things!

According to the BBC website [In reply to] Can't Post

The Hobbit is going to be split into two movies:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/...tainment/7572749.stm

Now, that article's not entirely accurate is it!

I'm so glad things are getting underway. And I'm equally as glad that I get to find out what's really going on, right here on ToRN, rather than reading various versions on misinformed news sites!

What is the BBC coming to? [In reply to] Can't Post

Not just the misleading bit about The Hobbit being split into two parts, but also the idea that PJ and GDT were searching for a "suitable scribe" before deciding to write the screenplay themselves. Surely there was never any question of anyone else writing the script?

And to cap it all, they spelled 'reins' wrong:

He had already handed over the director's reigns to Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro.

I'm appalled! Tongue

...and the sails were drawn up, and the wind blew,
and slowly the ship slipped away down the long grey firth;
and the light of the glass of Galadriel that Frodo bore
glimmered and was lost.

Oh Please [In reply to] Can't Post

Dream Team? Do you mean the Dream Team of Doom?

While I'm not shocked at this news, people shouldn't be celebrating that the people who butchered the Trilogy are back to write the script for the Hobbit.

Hopefully since the Hobbit is an easier story they won't mess it up too muh... but Philippa Boyens is talented in that area..Frown

Question from the Netherlands [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello there,

I just decided to register as a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings motion picture trilogy. I check this site 4 or 5 times a day. I have got a question for you guys. Why is everybody so happy about the news of Jackson, Walsh etc. I thought they had already signed in december 2007. To bad I cant understand everything in English so maybe I misunderstoud the anouncement of last december of Peter Jackson producing te Hobbit.

I hope that somebody can explain me why this news is exiting.

Thanks in advance, and sorry if the English is not quit correct....

Kind regards,

Tinus.

Welcome to TORN! [In reply to] Can't Post

There are a fair few discussion board members here for whom English is a second language, so I hope you feel at home on TORN. :)

The delight isn't so much about confirmation that PJ and the rest are joining del Toro, but because the four have them have started writing at last! It makes The Hobbit films just that little bit closer to completion.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Saurons master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

The Hobbit Script [In reply to] Can't Post

I would like to put forward a suggestion that might provide a guide for adapting the Hobbit to film.
Back in the 1970's an audio play was released on a 4 LP box set. Nicol Williamson was the narrator and did a wonderful job. The editing of the story was superb. It was also approved by The Professor himself. I often wondered why it is not available (Or if it is, where is it?) I have the box set and listen to it on a copy I made to save the original.

Don't worry about your English, it is fine. Though that was how I felt when I signed up, too - I'm German *waves over the border*

As for your question, you're right that the announcement has been made months ago. But since then, not much has been happening, at least nothing obvious, and so we're just excited that things *finally* are moving. Now that scripting has begun, we can expect more news - that in itself is exciting enough Smile

I agree... [In reply to] Can't Post

...I think I read somewhere that GDT spoke to principal cast from LOTR and Viggo's name was included in there. So if they've spoken to him about returning, they're probably also glossed over the part he has to play. Someone needs to get a hold of Viggo and glean a few answers off him Tongue Pirate

Crows and Gibbets! What is The House Of Eorl but a thatched barn where brigands drink in the reek, and their brats roll around on the floor with their dogs! You are but a lesser son of greater Sires.

Pre-production [In reply to] Can't Post

I am happy that my English is not TO badWink. By the way, your English isn't bad alsoTongue. I now know why everybody is so happy. Indeed there wasn't any news about the Hobbit since Del Toro took the helmet 4 months ago.

Does scipting mean pre-production has officially started? I guess that between now and fall 2009 the actors of the Hobbit will be reveald?

Hopefully earlier [In reply to] Can't Post

GDT (who is posting here on occasion) promised some news for Christmas, so I think a few casting news will be out not too far into the future. Maybe he'll finally announce who's playing Bilbo, so we won't have threads on the topic so often Wink Anyway, Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Andy Serkis as Gollum are already more or less confirmed, though not officially announced (well, they can't announce actors without script and before all papers are signed, after all)

Don't know any official definition, but IMO scripting counts as pre-production Smile And then Weta can go to work, too, I guess SmileSmile

I see some Oscars [In reply to] Can't Post

No doubt with the talent working on this film, it will steal a barrel full of Oscars.

This is awesome because not only are we getting highest quality screen writers, that are all obsessed and empassioned with this tale, Del Toro and Jackson writing side by side, means they will be discussing/sharing every little detail on the production and directing aspects as well, and will be on the same page, and between the two collaborating, will come up with a movie like none other. Especially for The Hobbit, though it will be great to see what they do with the 2nd movie as well.
