It won't be the end [In reply to] Can't Post

I actually look forward to the Mayan prediction coming true.

“End? No, the journey doesn't end here. There's another path; one that we all must take. The gray rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and it will change to silver glass, and then you see it—white shores; and beyond them, a far green country under a swift sunrise.”

"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." --Gandalf the Grey

MGM and Warner will have to make sure to deliver a few copies beyond the Circles of the World as soon as they are ready Wink
And while we are at this, a few copies of the other movies as well. Not to mention the books. Cool

I do not suffer from LotR obsession - I enjoy every minute of it.

The audacious proposal stirred his heart. And the stirring became a song, and it mingled with the songs of Gil-galad and Celebrian, and with those of Feanor and Fingon. The song-weaving created a larger song, and then another, until suddenly it was as if a long forgotten memory woke and for one breathtaking moment the Music of the Ainur revealed itself in all glory. He opened his lips to sing and share this song. Then he realized that the others would not understand. Not even Mithrandir given his current state of mind. So he smiled and simply said "A diversion.”

Well... [In reply to] Can't Post

If your going on the Word of God, there is said that "He will come as a thief in the night" and that we wont know the day nor the hour of His second coming. Then after His second coming "the rapture" there's supposed to be 7 years left. 3 and a half good and 3 and a half bad. After those years there is said to be a Great Battle once again where God will triumph and chain the Devil in the bottomless pit, and then we're safe for 1,000 years "the millennium" and then God is said to finally kill "the Great Serpent which is called Satan."

*sigh* anywho, I'd like to see the second movie before the Divine Powers whatever you have faith in, crumble the earth.

Has anyone noticed the weird events happening all over the world? Is Global Warming to blame? Curious isn't it?

If anyone takes offense to this please know I didn't do it intentionally, just wanted to join the conversation.Smile

Dagonet,
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shdows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

Dagonet... [In reply to] Can't Post

I was waiting for someone to make the "we wont know the day nor the hour" point... considered making it myself.

Well said. Given Tolkien's orientation it is more than appropriate to raise this.

I wonder if there is some deeper signifigance to Bilbo's being cast as a thief? But that is for another thread/forum.

Having said this, I have enjoyed the levity in this thread... doesn't seem like anyone is very worried about the end of the world, real or imagined.

No, especially since... [In reply to] Can't Post

I was told that it was supposed to end a few months ago. And I remember y2k well.

When He chooses to end the world is his business. Not mine to second- guess.

But I am enjoying reading the links on google about this. I hadn't heard of this new doomsday "scare" until this thread was started.

Hanging out with the Lonely Isle elves.

Yeah [In reply to] Can't Post

Yeah, I'm pretty much counting on that not knowing the day nor the hour. Seriously, when I was a kid I used to start each day saying, "Tomorrow will be the end of the world!" That way, if God had planned to end us all, He'd have to change the date just so as not to contradict Himself. Of course, I haven't done that for awhile, so we're not protected anymore...Shocked

Anyway, I think there's some sort of loophole in the Mayan prediction where only two thirds of the world dies off, or some such thing. So, not the projectionist--let the projectionist go on living. And if the customer in the next seat croaks, just remember that it's not nice to steal popcorn from the dead.

My website http://www.dreamdeer.grailmedia.com offers fanfic, and message-boards regarding intentional community or faerie exploration.

That's exactly it!... And the same goes for the 'end of the world' [In reply to] Can't Post

...which may be, by the way, only the end of the world as we have known it.
The end of the era for which the Mayan could make calculations based on a certain perception of Time, that could well become invalid past the collective shift into a higher consciousness that is - rather positively, I would say - supposed to happen also at the end of 2012 ???
Then 'the Hobbit' would actually herald such a wonderful change... actually foreseen and longed for by our dear JRRT himself!

'Is everything sad going to come untrue?'
