Hugs to you, and don't listen to your coworkers: everyone heals in their own way and in their own time. Your relationship with your dad took your lifetime to build; why should you have to "get over it" in a few weeks -- or, really, ever? Harumph on your coworkers. Treasure the memories and the love he gave you, and hang in there.

to your grandmother -- she sounds like an amazing lady. I wish more children could grow up with that kind of mind-expanding love and attention. I'm so glad you have the chance to tell her how important she is to you and to say your goodbyes. I lost my own grandmother last year; she was sharp and lucid right to the end, but her body had just given up and she'd finally had enough. I was unable to visit her in the final months, nor was I able to attend her funeral, and this will be something I always regret. So give your grandmother some extra love now, and make some peaceful, comforting memories.

No one has the right to tell you to "get over it". The world has changed; that's not something we can ever "get over". I salute you for celebrating your wonderful father in the midst of your mourning, and send you a virtual hug. {{{Rivendweller}}}

And how wonderful that you can tell her that while she's still living. One of my earliest and fondest memories is walking to the library every Friday night with my father. I credit him with teaching me to love books.

Well, December must have been more popular in my family. My birthday is in August, as is my daughter's, my kid's father, his grandmother's, my father's, my father's mother's.

I am so sorry for your loss. Ignore the 'get over it rubbish'. People only say things like that because they are uncomfortable around grief I suppose. I lost my Dad when I was 8 and I have never 'gotten over it', but I don't expect to. Instead, I have learned to live with that loss as part of who I am. Your tribute to your Dad was lovely. ((((((((hugs)))))))))

I hope you enjoy your celebrations. Big changes like this often feel bittersweet, don't they? I am sorry to hear another student has died. It is always hard to take the loss of a young life full of potential. ((((((((hugs))))))))

there's a door open in front of you, and you know you must go through and close the door behind you, while never knowing where this door is leading you to. What is "old" and familiar is being swept away in the currents of Time. Yes, it's a bit scary - that's quite normal, and yes, all us older TORnfolk have gone through that, many times! You'll do well. I'm sorry to hear about the second student...that's such a heavy and horrible grief for his/her family to have to deal with! You're right, life is not fair; but what is important in life, is how we deal with whatever is thrown at us; to borrow from Joni Mitchell, it can be stepping stones, or sinking sand. I know that you and your friends will do what you can to help that family cope with this. On a brighter note: I hope all your APs went well!
