I hadn't heard...

...about Walken being cast as the Emperor; that's definitely something to look forward to! I first read Dune about seven years before seeing the movie and reread it afterwards. I like it, but the pace picks way up in the last third, which I was pretty disappointed by the first time since I'd wanted to keep seeing the characters in the same level as detail as before, even as events in the plot were getting more chaotic. Honestly, I'm not sure how Villeneuve is going to fit it all into one more film (unless he isn't?), but I'm definitely curious to see how it turns out.

I think Part One was a reasonably solid adaptation of the original story, but I enjoyed it primarily as an audiovisual experience. Hans Zimmer's score was great, and the scene with the worm and the spice crawler was absolutely amazing in a theatre where I could feel my seat shake with the sound.
