..."The new Master is of wiser kind," said Balin, "and very popular... ...he gets most of the credit for the present prosperity. They are making songs which say that in his day the rivers run with gold."

The Lake-town Sourcebook for Cubicle 7's The One Ring Roleplaying Game includes an excerpt from a letter from the Dwarf Glóin to Bilbo Bag gins accompanied by a map of the new Lake-town, drawn by his brother Óin. The letter and map were delivered to Bilbo by Balin on the occasion of his and Gandalf's visit to Bag End in the autumn of the year 2949. Glóin's letter identifies the new Master of Esgaroth to be none other than "the former captain of the guard, the first Man of the Lake we met when we first set foot on the bridge to the old Lake-town."

Elsewhere in the supplement it is alleged that by the time of Balin's visit the population of Lake-town has grown to over one thousand people.
