The Elven Host

Tolkien shows that even an army of Elves doesn't move very quickly on foot (skipping ahead a bit):

- two days to reach the survivors of Lake-town
- six days for the combined force of Men and Elves to pass the north end of Long Lake
- three days for the joint forces to reach Dale at dusk

No doubt the Wood-elves were slowed by the speed of Bard's men. By themselves the Elves might have traveled from Lake-town to Dale in five or six days.
