I don't like it when a well known series of movies replaces one actor with another, especially when it's a main character as IMO it cheapens the franchise and makes the filmmakers look a bit lazy.


Even though I also knew the films before the books, I still don't picture Legolas looking like the actor who played him when I read the books. Same goes for just about all of the Hobbits from LotR (all except Sir Ian Holm, who I think was perfect for Old Bilbo).

Anyway, Orlando Bloom is no Sir Ian McKellen or Tom Hanks as far as acting chops go, but he isn't bad either. And at this point, Bloom IS "film Legolas", and it would have been very jarring to have another actor portray him in The Hobbit.
