okay if Middle Earth is an ancient Europe

The Shire is directly West of the Lonely Mountain.
They go even further north when they stop in at Beorn's.
which might as well be South Scandinavia.

Rohan & Gondor, in the movies
It seem like it was too Southern.

When the dwarves enter Mirkwood they can't even Light a fire?
Wet raining from the Misty Mountains ( so think temperate rainforest)
Only 3 places on our planet have temperate rainforests.

Olympic Peninsula in Washington and Oregon, Patagonia in southern Argentina and yes down in a fiordlands of Southern New Zealand!
