It helps knowing critics are inherently devoid of soul...BUT

seriously... They must surely know PJ is the biggest fan of Tolkien in and out of Middle Earth... they were bound to rip his vision asunder. I went into this movie with 2 thoughts... it has been directed by a fan, and it is a FANTASY.

Guess what? It's the most enjoyment I have had since the Return of the King.

Don't listen to critics :-)
