---> ANNOUNCEMENT Re: High Board Traffic

HIGH BOARD TRAFFIC

The Hobbit board has already started moving FAST and it will only get faster. Here's some survival tips that will help you and the whole community:

1) Scan page one of the board before you start a new thread. If there's already a thread on a similar topic, please post in that thread. For example, posts about new reviews (tweets or otherwise), new TV spots, etc., should be made in one thread until that thread drops off page 1. The Admins *will* be locking duplicate threads and deleting them after a bit because they take up a slot in the default view of 15 threads on page one of a board at a time (FYI, sticky posts don't count toward that total).

2) Consider reading threads in flat mode. You can change this in your profile under Display Settings. If the site slows down, threads will open faster for you if your default viewing option is 'flat' as opposed to 'threaded.' Note, for this to work you have to change your default. It doesn't work if you open a thread in threaded mode, then change it to flat.

3) Consider increasing the number of threads you can see on page 1 of the board. You can also do this under Display Settings. Please don't change it to see over 50 threads at a time or it may slow things down. Normally, anything above 15 would show threads that aren't very active anymore, but in the next month or so, viewing 20 or 30 threads at a time might be useful (that would be the equivalent of seeing page one and page two under the current default).

This is what we've all been waiting for for years! Woohooo! So, let's all enjoy it and also be mindful of the enjoyment of others!

Thanks! Smile

p.s. this thread will be stickied once it gets toward the bottom of the board

(Below is an outdated bit about spoilers for AUJ - saving text for right before DOS Wink

SPOILERS

As we all know, Hobbit reviews are already appearing on the net, and the floodgates on reviews will be open at 9:00 PST (Pacific Standard Time) tonight. The Admins will try to keep things like entire scene descriptions out of subject lines until the movie starts opening world-wide on December 12, but some spoilers are bound to slip through. After that, pretty much everything about the first movie is fair game. So, if you really *really* want to avoid spoilers, please consider taking a break from the Hobbit forum until you've seen the movie.

Also, if you can't stand not getting any Hobbit news, head on over to the Main forum twice a week to check out DanielB/Xanaseb's Hobbit Round-up threads. They contain short, spoiler-free recaps of threads here on the Hobbit board, with links that take you directly to a thread of interest so you don't risk seeing all the threads on the board. Recaps and links have spoiler warnings so you don't accidentally click on threads you'd rather not see.
