Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ...........

I feel obliged to tell you that not all fans... of Tolkien's, of the movies, and of you... are 'hacked off'. Some of us are feeling quite patient that things will progress when they are meant to progress... that no one is out to intentionally mess with our heads, disrespect us, or destroy our lives... and that we have other things to occupy our attention while circumstances are sorted out so that things can proceed.

And some of us have learned that sometimes the outcome of delays is that something even better manages to come about. Reference Doug Adams' situation with his book due out this fall on the LOTR film music.

The only problem is, those of us of the patient persuasion are not nearly so vocal as the those who find themselves in a different state of existence on this matter.

Please know that the most vocal are not necessarily the only voice. And that some of us would be appalled to speak to another as some people here seem quite comfortable speaking.

Best wishes. Your friends are with you.

Unsure Magpie, I can't help feeling that's a pretty thinly veiled attack. Especially as I stated quite clearly in a follow up comment, before Guillermo's appearance here, words to the effect of, quote:

"I agree there's an air of impatience to what I've said, and paradoxically I also entirely agree with the people here who've stressed patience and everything in good time etc. when that's entirely my life philosophy. I also don't think GDT owes us minute-by-minute disclosure really, and has always been incredibly gracious and inclusive re: the fanbase on these things when he DOES have something to tell us - more than most directors that's for sure."

My "buts ..." and being "hacked off" were largely wrapped up in repetition of the reportage, the endless Bilbo casting rumours, the stop & start etc of, quote: "a corporate dragon outside of their (i.e:the film-makers) control." And whilst I did indulge a little pointless dry humour & whimsy, at no point was it an idle and/or spiteful attack in the way you have alluded. If I'm wrong about your intent there, I apologise, but it just struck me, especially in the light of GDT's appearance, as a lightning attempt to affirm your own loyalties in a needless "us " and "them" scenario and make my comments seem underhanded or inauthentic somehow when I too, am a huge fan of this man's work. Dunno ... just a hunch.

Where I was outright WRONG, for example about the 3D debate causing delays, etc, I'm glad to be proven so. I make no secrets about not being a fan of Avatar, whether or not I'm in the minority on that score. But it's also pretty clear that on the acting & scripting front, The Hobbit would inevitably be stronger than Cameron's film if it eventually went that route, so my qualms with the whole process (i.e: largely coming from a place of concern about the wow factor being a distraction to solid story-telling) would also come under question. Perhaps if The Hobbit can balance both where imo Avatar didn't, that will be its calling card as a superior 3D experience, I don't know. I'm an old fashioned git and I like my old fashioned movies.

As for Guillermo's intervention here, well, maybe the Michael Bays of this world would have launched into a fairly unpleasant tirade calling me an armchair critic by this point, so frankly any use of the word 'empathy' confirms the character of the man. Alright, that was for Bill not me, but you get the general idea. A gentleman. Especially when it's basically the cyber equivalent of someone who's never stepped foot in your house and doesn't know you, telling you to get a move on with decorating your living room when they can't see the pots of gloss emulsion or rollers stacked up on the newspaper covered floor. Or the fact your landlord had just put the damn house on the market anyway. Annoying.

[Faun] So God bless you, sir. [/Faun.]

Crazy Life's ironic. You sing the praises of a director, his predecessor and their films on other messageboards for Donkey's years, and the one time you get negative, they make a personal appearance. I'll have to live with that one.

Any regrets? Not really. I blame no one for messing with my head though Magpie except Punxsutawney Phil ... Ned Ryerson ...

Garfield, maybe ...
