God I think you have this more right than me. Provided it's perceived as Tolkien's view of his creation, and as one of the screenwriters point out Tolkien was not about allegory, it will be fine. I was being overly influenced by the fact that I spend more time in observant societies (where ROP was No1 on Amazon), which I respect enormously, than non observant. As to my concerns about crescendos over ten years let's see what happens. Inshallah. Mamon As to your other remarks I took a lot of pleasure in reading your thoughts. The arts these days are as much about accountants as visionaries. Fans (and non fans) can demand all they like, but that ignores the realpolitik that the writer of books and screen plays is not allowed to, unless he or she wants to starve or give up. The extra ordinary irony of all this, is the professor in 1969 was very concerned about Capital Transfer Tax (now Inheritance Tax) and that drove his thoughts on the sale of the film rights. Does that make him like Lobelia, looking out for his children's inheritance?
My Dear Bilbo something is the matter with you! you are not the same hobbit that you were.
