I'm wondering

why they had a Chat at such an early date, if they are that early in the Process. I was at first disappointed that we did not know more about the script...didn't exect them to have been casting yet, as the Lawsuits and the Writers Strike delayed by months many key particulars in the pre-production process.

How much of this is being sifted through and delegated by the Studios? Warner's/NL/MGM might think that by allowing the Creatives to reach out so much at this early stage it will "soften us up" for hard corporate decisions. On the other hand, PJ, knowing the power of the fans, might be enlisting GDT and doing all this as a stealth campaign to keep the Studios at bay in the future. Turning the tables back on them so to speak.
Another theory I have is that the more "public" aspects of this project at this point, the better, since it would make an impression on a Judge that this project is already too far in the public eye to shut down....

Personally, I think both of them were just stoked to do this, b/c they knew we were going crazy with no news and they are as sick and tired of the delays as we are. So even with the minimum of the creative process in place, they were dying to share what they DID know for sure. But if the Studios are in on this, propaganda is good:)

Anyway, am reading and digesting the Log now, I LOVE yr comments about the Dwarves in particular MrCere! Juat reading your comments gets me stoked! And it may not be as difficult to make 13 seperate dwarves "distinguishable and affecting" as it says, nor might it be an MAJOR departure from the book....I haven't finished my TH reread yet, but I remember:

--Thorin the noble (and it wouldn't be hard to make a Boromir-type character of him in Dwarf form: noble, then fallen, and finally redeemed)
--Fili and Kili, the youngest (brothers maybe? I can see them being made the most jolly and Gimli-like, but they do not survive, so it might be really affecting to see a Fred Weasely-type thing going on here; I think GDT is capable of pulling this off)
--Bombur (he might be difficult, you'll have to cast a heavyset actor, and he must not be pitiable b/c of his weight--or GDT can change the weight thing altogether. He might be the most difficult to pull off)
--Oin and Gloin (soldiers, the loyal leuitenants, to Balin--pure soldiers, grim and warlike, and if possible, Gloin shoul of course look like Gimli--same style hair, armor, clothes etc)
--Balin (maybe Thorin's second in command? His major-domo and with a ":younger brother/lesser noble" vibe, as befits a future Lord of Dwarves--Moria)
The rest of the dwarves, I'm sure Fran and Philippa--the REAL writing geniuses of the bunch, IMO--can invent great new personalities for, it's excusable IMO.

I am sure Our Four can pull this off ( I will call the writing team that--Philippa and esp FRAN are in ! WOOOOO HOOOO!!!!" *ahem*Sly)

Anyway, thanks to all you guys! I guess it was a long shot to think there'd be any specifics on the music at this stage, but oh well!

Oh and MrCere---we found out what yr first name is--sweetWink
