Now we will see if this film will be years after Bilbo's party like in the books (which wasn't explored in the films) or if it will see like a short time like in the film. But I can see Andy and team turning it to be a longer time period after Bilbo's party, but I guess we will see! Well, hypothetically, Frodo's departure in the films follows about one year after BIibo's birthday party. It can't realistically be less than that; and I don't think it could be stretched to more than another couple of years since none of the hobbits age noticeably in the intervening time as they would have during the 17 years in the novel. I don't see Andy Serkis making that large a retcon to the film continuity.
