But so obvious to the characters that they do not need to spell it out?

My idea here is that there is no need for book-Frodo or book-Sam to make movie-Sam's stirring speech about motivation, because all that is axiomatic. If so, maybe it is similar to that other very popular not-actually-Tolkien-quote "Even the smallest person can change the course of the future." (Good post here by Marcel R. Bülles, the author of thetolkienist.com covering what Tolkien did write, similar or apparently contradictory). I do not think Frodo needs telling that he can change the course of the future. That is, essentially, his predicament. I think he is absolutely aware that either the Ring is destroyed in time to defeat Sauron before Middle-earth is conquered, or he doesn't. For now, at least, he's the one charged with doing the destroying, if he can. And book-Galadriel has just tols book-Frodo that she won't substitute for him, and given him a very vivid picture of why that would be a terrible idea anyway.
~~~~~~ "I am not made for querulous pests." Frodo 'Spooner' Baggins.
