Since we see Mumakil in the concept photos, could the movie also include the Easterlings joining forces with the Dunlendings and Haradrims attack on Helm's Deep? If they are there as well, it an be a small nod to the siege of Erebor which we never saw on screen. I've never associated Műmakil with the Easterlings, much less with the siege of Erebor. I've always understood Sam's Oliphaunts to be creatures utilized by the Haradrim, as we see in The Two Towers (both book and film). Also, I'm not sure that the Easterlings actually ever allied themselves with the Dunlendings in the legendarium; the Dunlendings did at least take advantage of Rohan being beleaguered on their eastern front. I'm just not sure that it went further than that. I do believe that the "Tale of Years" that appears in The Peoples of Middle-earth states that the Easterlings had allied with Orcs against the Rohirrim.
2757...Rohan is overrun by Orcs and Easterlings. At the same time Gondor is attacked by the Corsairs of Umbar. Of course this was not "The Tale of Years of the Third Age" in its final form. Take if for what it's worth.
