It's eye-catching. And, like VValar, I think it gives the impression of dripping blood. VValar is looking forward, but you could also look back. Is it meant to be Thranduil's blood (due to old wounds) or the blood that's - metaphorically - on his hands (due to past conflicts)? The answer is likely in the source it was it taken from: a Thranduil Thrall or a Thorin Thrall?
