Tolkien's work is more susceptible to being co-opted by the far-right, fascists, and white supremacists. It's strange, then, that he was "co-opted" to a much greater extent by Sixties radicals, anti-war activists and the Counterculture, cultural movements which Tolkien also heartily disapproved of. That said, I don't entirely disagree with you. In fact, as our social justice philosophers now delight in telling us (when they are not presenting Tolkien as a social justice warrior), there is much of a "problematic" nature in the man's works.
