There is one scene in Lotr when the Rohirrim defend a smaller outer wall in front of Helm's Deep at night. And after throwing back the first assault one of them says something like 'at least we have taught them not to carry torches' for full realism I can't help that an Orcish equivalent of Sun Tzu ought to have handed this lesson down rather earlier than T.A. 3019. though I suppose in this particular instance it's stressed in the books that saruman's uruks aren't bothered by the sun, so I suppose maybe can't see in the dark so well.
