A couple more comparisons

*ahem* Thranduil is careful and guarded and Bilbo charms and disarms (thanks Kerewyn!). Thranduil is complex and Bilbo is simple. Thranduil is a twist of smoke and Bilbo is a ray of warm sunshine. Thranduil hides from the world outside while Bilbo is learning to face it head-on. Ok, I've run out of comparisons now. Anyone else want to take shot at it?
Oh yes! Elf-friend indeed! Still hoping for some stealth-hobbit in Thranduil's Halls in the DOS EE to help set up some of that Elf-friend vibe we oughta get in BotFA, and to see Bilbo at Thranduil's side in the Battle. I think the concept of "Elf-friend" is interesting. In LOTR at least, it almost seemed like the elves were doing more that just giving an "empty" title when they called someone elf-friend. It seemed like it was something truly special that others could see or feel. Like with Frodo, for example. I noticed that after he was called elf-friend for the first time, IIRC people kept saying that he had an elvish air about him that was never commented upon before he got that title. Of course, it could be that the elvish air just came from being around the elves for any length of time, but Frodo seemed to be the only one that people specifically thought had an elvish air. Or I might be misremembering the whole thing because I've only read LOTR once.
