Kick Ass, Hunger Games, any YA book/movie adapted from books have fighter kids in it. So you can`t fault the film-makers if they are trying to capitalize on it a bit. As already explained by others, it isn`t far fetched for a 13 years old boy to be in a combat. What wouldn`t work is turning him into a super fighter. Keep it real. I love the fact that Hobbits in LOTR never become Legolas and Aragorn clones as far as fighting skill goes. They are brave but they are not professionals.
