I've long wondered whether some of the dates in The Hobbit need to be adjusted. We are told that the Company of Thorin arrives at Rivendell on June 4, they stay there "fourteen days at least", and leave on Midyear's Day. The issue is we know that Midyear's Day in both the Shire Reckoning and in the Calendar of Imladris falls in the middle of the Lithedays between June and July. That means that the company remains in Rivendell for four full weeks, considerably more than fourteen days. The phrase "at least" is doing some heavy lifting here. Perhaps Bilbo's perception of time is skewed by the influence of both the High Elves themselves and the presence of Vilya, the Ring of Air? The four weeks felt to him like only fourteen days or so?
