I am also reading books about family estrangement and how it's usually the healthy ones who have to leave/get scapegoated out, as the rest don't want to look at the dysfunction and do the work to change. They're miserable, but it's a familiar misery, and changing means stepping into the unknown, which is too scary for most. This is not a fear I share.
